The mandatory noise suppression is meant to activate for anything that has a somewhat consistent hum, e.g., heating systems or exhaust hoods. In this device, the noise suppression works quite well. While there are other models that reduce background noise significantly more, this one should suffice for everyday listening.
The Serene 4 76 DWC is also well-equipped for windy outdoor situations. The signal processing can identify wind and reduce it a bit. The impulse sound management is relatively simple; it dampens short loud noises somewhat, and it's acceptable. Spatial hearing requires a bit of practice with the Serene 4 76 DWC. However, the adaptive microphone system provides decent support in social settings. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels allow for good functionality.

We looked at what operating options the Serene 4 76 DWC has to offer: Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Serene 4 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. We really like small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows you to discreetly make small adjustments to the volume or sound.
The modern form of control via voice commands is not yet found in the Serene 4 76 DWC. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, tap control could be conceivable, triggering a specific function by tapping your fingers on your ear. However, this option is not available in the Serene 4 76 DWC.
Better than a remote control, in our opinion, is an app, as everyone likely has a smartphone in their pocket. The app for the Serene 4 76 DWC is really good; it has many clever functions that make listening in difficult situations much easier. It is quite complex, but you get used to it quickly. You can practice in demo mode. There are also a few surprising additional tools - enjoy discovering them! Problems with phone calls using a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Calls, music, and other sounds are transmitted completely wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls and while listening to music during sports. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

Here are our answers: Regarding relaxed listening, the Serene 4 76 DWC is only easy to use if you predominantly stay in quiet listening environments. If it gets louder or more challenging, we do not receive support from adaptive situational automatics. At best, you can only help yourself with manual controls. We grant a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually raises the starting volume until my listening goal is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound. The Serene 4 76 DWC is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly, but also very convenient to use and frees me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery replacement. The Serene 4 is nearly dustproof and waterproof, and with its IP 68 classification, it is certainly well protected against external influences.

As there is increasingly more storage space in apps or the hearing aids themselves, it's worth taking a look at possible extra features. Here's how it looks: Beltone has integrated a sound generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A real added value is the remote maintenance service. To change the hearing aid settings, one no longer necessarily needs to go to the specialist store but can directly contact the audiologist via the app. Through a cloud service, the new data package can then be loaded into the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we sadly do not have in the Serene 4 76 DWC. Other hearing aids already offer a few extended options like a fall alert or reminder functions. We do not find that here, and that’s not too dramatic because the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
