There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed entirely according to the customer's wishes. Of course, its use is optional. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is through the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're speaking with is too quiet, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.

The modern form of operation via voice command is not yet found in the Serene 9 76 DWC. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and then the device switches modes. However, we don’t have that feature here at Beltone; it would have required very specific sensors.

Apps for hearing aids are now widely available. This one for the Serene 9 76 DWC has awakened our playful side. It’s fun to use this app, as it adds a few very useful tools to the hearing aid's capabilities. The Serene 9 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna, allowing us to enjoy stereo phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over people with normal hearing. We think that's great and happily give it points.

We continue with the test with a brief assessment of how easy everyday use will be. Is it complicated? Do I need to pay special attention? Or do I not need to consider anything further? We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. The Serene 9 76 DWC is rechargeable and no longer requires any hearing aid batteries. This is environmentally friendly, as there are no old batteries to dispose of. At the same time, it is also extremely convenient, as there is no need to carry spare batteries. The hearing aids simply go into the charging station in the evening and are ready for use the next morning.

The data sheet certifies the Beltone device with an IP protection class rating of 68. This makes it one of the most durable hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the housing, as long as it does not submerge deeper than 1.5 m. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave quite carefree.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make a hearing aid perfect. That's why we quickly check for the extras that might be included: Beltone has integrated a sound generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.

We really like the option for remote adjustment. This is very helpful whenever you only want to change a small detail in the hearing aid settings but don’t want to drive to the audiologist for it. Instead, you can make contact through the app, and the hearing professional sends an adjusted data package back the same way.

Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately don’t have in the Serene 9 76 DWC. The device from Beltone focuses on the essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation features. While that would have been fun, it isn’t necessary for a good listening experience.
