This time we tested a discreet hearing aid at the highest quality level. It is the Bernafon Alpha 9 MNR T. It is worn behind the ear and is designed for mild, moderate, and even profound hearing losses. The comfortable position of the speaker in the ear canal is due to its design, which also provides a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
Hearing aids are meant to not only bring speech to the ear but also sound pleasant. So, let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively everyday life? Here, with this test device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. As in every hearing aid, it also has typical noise cancellation. It is designed to reduce uniform, noisy ambient sounds to the point that they no longer dominate. With the Alpha 9 MNR T, you can be completely satisfied with the noise reduction. On one hand, it has a remarkable depth of control, meaning it can significantly reduce sounds. On the other hand, it can be adjusted in several levels, after all, one does not need full attenuation all the time.
When it comes to wind noise cancellation, we are dealing with a relatively simple wind damper. Cracking, metallic sounds don’t stand a chance in this hearing aid; they are significantly reduced with a multi-level tool. With 24 channels, the frequency band count in the Alpha 9 MNR T is very high. This allows the hearing aid to be perfectly tuned to each individual hearing and also offers good long-term tuning options. 3D hearing is very important for a natural impression. The device leaves nothing to be desired in this respect and has impressed us in this regard.
By the way, you may perceive the sound from this Bernafon device as clearer and more natural, especially in noisy environments. This is probably due to the implemented artificial intelligence. The hearing aid has been fed with millions of real sounds, resulting in a significantly improved distinction between speech and noise.

Everyone has their own specific hearing needs. It's advantageous if you can customize your hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special listening situations. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, this is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the volume or switch to another hearing program. Nobody notices it, and there's no need to touch your ear.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust the hearing aids' volume using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Bernafon hasn't implemented this feature in this device yet. Don't worry; while it would be nice, it is not essential. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch. However, we don't have this feature at Bernafon, as it would have required specific sensors.
The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even though the app isn't one of our favorites, it's still a helpful addition to the Alpha 9 MNR T. Issues with phone calls on your smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely wirelessly transmitted to the hearing aids. Headphones become redundant. We tested the wireless transmission for longer phone calls as well as for listening to music while exercising. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

The user-friendliness is the next aspect we want to address. This involves everyday usability and the question of how easy and safe it is to get through life with the hearing aid. With top-notch situation recognition, the Alpha 9 MNR T has completely convinced us. The hearing aid seamlessly adapts to the acoustic environment and rarely requires our intervention. Hearing feels completely normal. The adaptation to the new hearing experience is supported by a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely balanced. I only need to wear my hearing aids regularly.
Unfortunately, the Alpha 9 MNR T is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so regular size 312 batteries are needed for operation.
The hearing aid has been classified into IP protection class 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily damage the hearing aid. Thus, it is well-equipped for outdoor activities, where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not necessarily go bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and may ultimately cause damage.

Als letztes interessiert uns, ob es noch ein paar Goodies on top gibt: Richtig gut gefallen hat uns das optionale Tinnitusprogramm. Es gibt doch relativ viele Menschen, die gelegentlich oder häufig von einem Pfeifen oder Rauschen im Ohr geplagt sind. Das Tinnitusprogramm im Alpha 9 MNR T ist eigentlich nichts weiter als ein Klanggenerator. Es geht darum, breitbandige Geräusche oder Klänge zu erzeugen, die sanft und angenehm alle Hörbereiche stimulieren. Der Tinnitus geht darin unter und wird nicht mehr als störend wahrgenommen.
Spannend finden wir den Fernwartungsdienst, den man in Anspruch nehmen kann. Wenn man keine Gelegenheit hat, zum Hörakustiker zu fahren, kontaktiert man ihn stattdessen über die App, beschreibt kurz sein Hörproblem und erhält anschließend ein Datenpaket mit einer neuen Hörgerätkonfiguration. Wenn die sich gut anhört, lädt man sie in seine Hörgeräte.
Ein neuer Trend in der Hörgerätebranche sind integrierte Sensoren, mit denen z.B. ein paar persönliche Gesundheitsdaten getrackt werden können. Das hat das Alpha 9 MNR T aber nicht im Angebot. Dann gibt es noch ein paar Lifestyle-Funktionen, die Ihr Hörgerät zu einem smarten Assistent machen. Lassen Sie sich mit Sprachassistenten wie Siri verbinden, oder entdecken Sie, was noch alles in der App steckt. Das hat zwar nicht mehr viel mit dem eigentlichen Hören zu tun, kann aber äußerst nützlich sein.

Abschließend lässt sich sagen, dass es sich bei diesem Gerät um einen echten Allrounder handelt, der uns mit seiner Komfortausstattung überzeugt und mit der Note 2,41 ein gutes Gesamtergebnis erzielt. Wer auf Spitzentechnik verzichten möchte, aber trotzdem einen bequemen Höralltag wünscht, der ist hier an der richtigen Stelle.
