Hansaton brings its AQ jam XC Pro 5 R to market, a traditional hearing aid from a price range slightly above the average. It is a discreet hearing aid for mild to severe hearing loss and is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
The comfort features determine how pleasant hearing is experienced in everyday life. This hearing aid allows for solid comfort programming by the hearing acoustician. A classic noise suppression aims to reduce annoying background noises to a tolerable level. The AQ jam XC Pro 5 R includes a remarkable and well-functioning noise reduction. This device has excellent wind management, making time spent outdoors enjoyable.
Impulse sounds often occur in everyday life. There is the dishwasher that needs to be unloaded, or the keys that are placed on the table. The AQ jam XC Pro 5 R features strong impulse sound management that makes these sounds bearable. Adaptive microphone systems facilitate spatial hearing. However, one needs to get accustomed to the new sound; especially at the beginning, it can be unclear where a sound is coming from. With 14 frequency channels, one can achieve a pretty good sound adjustment. A passionate musician may not be entirely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is more than sufficient.

Most hearing aids automatically adjust to their environment. However, it can be very practical to have the option to make changes yourself. Ultimately, the hearing aid doesn't know how you are feeling at the moment. We looked into the control options offered by the AQ jam XC Pro 5 R: Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the AQ jam XC Pro 5 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is through the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person speaking to you is too quiet, one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional listening programs for music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
In our testing, we did not find any option for voice control. While this feature isn't strictly necessary, we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tapping control. You simply tap your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Hansaton device.
In the App Store, we also found a suitable application from Hansaton. The app for the AQ jam XC Pro 5 R isn't one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. One of the best features in the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headphone, allowing it to receive phone calls and other sounds directly in your ear. A compatible smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology is required. The biggest advantage is that you hear phone calls not just in one ear but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal preferences.

However, those who frequently experience changing acoustic environments should have the manual additional programs configured. We give a big plus for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This greatly facilitates the adjustment to the new sound.
The AQ jam XC Pro 5 R contains a rechargeable battery. We find this very good since rechargeable hearing aids are absolutely contemporary. There’s no need to have batteries lying around everywhere, and you won’t have to change the battery in the middle of a concert. The hearing aid simply plugs into the charging station overnight and has enough energy for the following day.
The AQ jam XC Pro 5 is nearly dust and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.
In addition to the mini charger for stationary use, there is also the Comfort Charger with an optional power bank.

Lastly, we are interested in whether there are a few goodies on top: Here we noticed the tinnitus option. Those who wish can have a special tinnitus program set up. This gently plays a soothing sound in the ears if needed, to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be customized according to personal hearing preferences.
A very good additional benefit is provided by the remote maintenance service. Through the app, users can contact their audiologist and describe their hearing problem. The audiologist can then adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. This is a great service for people with little time or long travel distances.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can, for example, track some personal health data. However, the AQ jam XC Pro 5 R does not offer this. The functionality of the AQ jam XC Pro 5 R is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional features such as fall alarms or Siri connections have a considerable added value but are not relevant for good hearing balance.
