Phonak offers the Audeo Paradise 50 13 T, a small hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. It is a hearing aid from a price range slightly above average and is suitable for light, moderate, and stronger hearing needs. By wisely deciding to place the speaker directly in the ear canal, it ensures that sound reaches the eardrum without losses.

Hearing comfort

The hearing comfort determines whether someone likes to wear their hearing aids or not. That’s why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model, which Phonak presents to us, we found only a few options for comfort influence. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, which is supposed to reduce tiring background noises. In the Audeo Paradise 50 13 T, the noise suppression can be adjusted to the customer’s wishes. Unfortunately, this hearing aid still lacks wind noise suppression. Too bad.

A punch sound attenuator is unfortunately not included in the Audeo Paradise 50 13 T. An adaptive directional microphone helps separate speech from noise, but we miss a true 3D experience. With 16 frequency channels, the Audeo Paradise 50 13 T clearly belongs to the better devices and allows for individual, well-sounding programming.

An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this Phonak model does not yet apply it.

There is usually a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Audeo Paradise 50 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. We do like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet small changes in volume or sound.

Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Phonak unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical when fingers are not as dexterous anymore or if you simply like smart gadgets. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap, without needing to press an extra button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.

Hearing aid apps are becoming increasingly popular. With the Audeo Paradise 50 13 T, we are in luck: there is a suitable app. This app completely impressed us. Not only are there numerous options to adjust the hearing aids to individual hearing preferences, but the app also offers a lot of lifestyle features. A streaming option would not be bad for our digital everyday life. The device in question fulfills our wish and includes a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows making calls and streaming sounds directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.

Now let’s take a look at how usage is in everyday life. Is the handling simple? Do I get a safe device? The Audeo Paradise 50 13 T can independently differentiate between quiet and loud environments, but there isn’t much more to the programming automation. Manual setting options are hardly optional here. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new auditory impressions.

We regret that the Audeo Paradise 50 13 T does not have a rechargeable battery, but operates with hearing aid batteries size 13. This is not a major issue, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand: This hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it runs for a longer time on a single battery.

We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and find the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This prevents dust from entering, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Extras

Finally, let's take a quick look at whether there are any extras available: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the Audeo Paradise 50 13 T upon request. This can generate stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.

A very good additional benefit is provided by the remote maintenance service. Through the app, you can contact your hearing care professional and describe your hearing problem. They can then adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long journey, this is a great service.

If Phonak had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individual health tracking could even be possible. However, this is not the case here. These points result in a loss of value for the Audeo Paradise 50 13 T. Other hearing aids already offer some expanded options such as a fall alert or reminder functions. We do not find this here, and that's not too dramatic, as the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
