Once again, we focus on a hearing aid from the company Phonak. This time, it is a conventional behind-the-ear hearing aid called Naida Paradise 30 PR. It is a small-sized hearing aid, and its price falls into the upper-mid-range category. It can be used for mild to profound hearing losses. Let’s take a look at what the interior has to offer:
Hearing comfort
In the hearing comfort section, we look at how a hearing aid manages all the background noises. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to a user liking and regularly wearing their hearing aids. With this Phonak device, we found limited options for comfort adjustments. The regular noise suppression aims to reduce uniform, hissing background noises. In the Naida Paradise 30 PR, the background noise can be adjusted in several increments, allowing users to decide how much attenuation is really comfortable.
A filter for clattering, popping noises is not available here – unfortunately, that's a downside. We sorely missed wind noise reduction. Those who spend a lot of time outdoors might find the clearly audible wind noises quite bothersome. The adjustable microphones help to recognize specific directions and can also assist in noise cancellation, but the spatial sound was not very natural. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels are still quite usable.
Artificial intelligence-based strategies are not yet implemented in this Phonak hearing aid.

How can you fully utilize the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We found out what accessibility options are available with the Naida Paradise 30 PR. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical, as it is the simplest and fastest way to make adjustments. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to make any adjustments directly on your ear, you can of course deactivate the button. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is through the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're talking to is too quiet again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
We always appreciate when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional function. For example, we would have liked to see a voice control feature here. However, this is currently not available in the Naida Paradise 30 PR. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. But this feature is not available in this Phonak device.
Apps for hearing aids are widespread today. The one for the Naida Paradise 30 PR ignited our playful side. It is fun to use this app, as it expands the functionality of the hearing aid with a few very useful tools. We particularly enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone are transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into the perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable.

Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work simply and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? When it comes to simplicity in hearing, we do not make compromises. We expect the hearing aid to function fully automatically in the background and not require us to constantly press buttons. We are somewhat disappointed with the Naida Paradise 30 PR. Only basic situations are automatically recognized. This means that we cannot really manage without manual operation options. Supporting the adjustment period is very important to us in terms of simplicity. Especially after having had hearing difficulties for years, it can sometimes be hard to perceive everything at a natural volume. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the acclimatization phase. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
The Naida Paradise 30 PR is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly but also very convenient to handle, freeing me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery replacements.
We had an undisturbed everyday life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to soapy bathwater or saltwater.

Abschließend wollen wir wissen, ob das Hörgerät vielleicht noch Specials anbietet: Phonak hat einen Geräuschgenerator integriert, der für Tinnitus-Geplagte ein paar lindernde Klänge abspielt. Das kann vom Tinnitus ablenken und für etwas mehr Entspannung sorgen.
Einen sehr guten Zusatznutzen erhält man durch das Angebot der Fernwartung. Über die App kann man mit seinem Hörakustiker Kontakt aufnehmen und sein Hörproblem schildern. Der kann die Einstellung entsprechend verändern und über die App in die Hörgeräte laden. Für Menschen mit wenig Zeit oder einem weiten Anfahrtsweg ist das ein toller Service.
Hätte Phonak Bewegungssensoren in dieses Hörgerät integriert, dann könnte sogar ein individuelles Gesundheits-Tracking erfolgen. Das ist hier aber nicht der Fall. Diese Punkte gehen dem Naida Paradise 30 PR in der Wertung verloren. Bei anderen Hörgeräten gibt es schon ein paar erweiterte Optionen wie einen Sturzalarm oder Erinnerungsfunktionen. Hier finden wir das nicht, und das ist auch gar nicht so dramatisch, denn die normalen Hörfunktionen sind immer noch am wichtigsten.
