The ReSound Nexia 4 62-DRW in review

Diese Technik wurde im Februar 2025 von den ReSound Vivia abgelöst ist daher nicht mehr ganz aktuell . Aus diesem Grund nehmen eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote vor.

We are once again in the test lab, and this time we had a product from ReSound in our hands or rather on our ear. The full product name is Nexia 4 62-DRW, and it is positioned slightly above the average in its price category. With the receiver (=speaker) that sits directly in the ear canal, it has good acoustic properties. The Nexia 4 62-DRW is worn behind the ear, and it is a relatively small hearing aid for mild, moderate, and even significant hearing needs.

Hearing comfort

We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. However, from our experience in the hearing aid specialty store, we also know that listening comfort is at least equally important. It’s about processing background noise in such a way that it does not hinder speech understanding while still creating a natural sound image. In testing the Nexia 4 62-DRW, solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. Let’s take a look at the individual features:

Of course, this ReSound device has noise reduction, as it has become standard. Noise reduction means that uniform and rather monotonous sounds (e.g., air conditioner, vacuum cleaner...) are dampened. Here, we are not dealing with the most powerful variant, but in everyday life, the noise reduction should be sufficient.

Our test discovered impulse sound damping. It slightly mitigates sudden, sharp sounds. We are pleased that the Nexia 4 62-DRW includes wind reduction. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels are quite workable. One must train spatial hearing a bit with these hearing aids. While the movable microphones help, due to their position on top of the outer ear, the spatial sound is not like that of a normally hearing person. However, after a short adjustment period, spatial hearing works quite well.

An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this feature is not yet implemented in this ReSound model.

Operation & connectivity

Although hearing aids are now very intelligent, they still cannot read the thoughts of the hearing aid wearer. As a result, the automation sometimes reaches its limits. Individual adjustment options can be really useful, so let’s briefly look at the options available for the Nexia 4 62-DRW: First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This makes a lot of sense, as it is the simplest and quickest way to make changes. The volume can be adjusted through this, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to make adjustments directly at the ear, you can of course deactivate the button. We really like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet small adjustments to the volume or sound.

Voice commands are a relatively new way to operate hearing aids. However, we do not have this option in this model yet. That’s not a big deal - as long as you can hear well. Tap Control would have been an interesting feature as well. With it, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But that is not available in the Nexia 4 62-DRW yet.

In our opinion, an app is better than a remote control since everyone likely has a smartphone in their pocket. The app for the Nexia 4 62-DRW is really good; it has a lot of smart features that make hearing in difficult situations significantly easier. It is quite complex, but you can quickly get the hang of it. You can also practice in demo mode. There are also a few surprising additional tools - have fun discovering them! A streaming option would not be bad for our digital everyday life. The device in question meets our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.

Our database contains 95 reviews of hearing aids with similar technical features to this one (i.e., with the speaker placed inside the ear canal in Size "S - small", not rechargable, Suitable for Degree of Hearing Loss Mild, moderate & severe). Here are the top 3 (Review: November 2025):

Simplicity & security

Our analysis also deals with the everyday usability of hearing aids. This includes robustness, as well as special comfort features that aim to keep daily use as simple as possible. When it comes to relaxed listening, the Nexia 4 62-DRW is only easy to use if you are mostly in quiet listening environments. When it gets louder or more challenging, we do not receive support from adaptive situational automatics. At best, one can only assist with manual controls. Some people find it difficult to adjust, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months, and it can be individually set. The individual steps are so small that you hardly notice that there has been an increase in volume.

The Nexia 4 62-DRW derives its power from small disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days. While this is not rocket science, it should be considered, especially in the case of motor problems. A rechargeable battery would be much easier to handle.

The data sheet certifies the ReSound device with an IP protection class 68 certification. This makes it one of the most resistant hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the casing unless submerged deeper than 1.5 m. However, please be cautious. Shampoo, for example, changes the surface tension of the water. You should also avoid saltwater. Nevertheless, in everyday life, you can behave quite carelessly.

Extras

We complete the test by checking if there are any extras for you: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the Nexia 4 62-DRW upon request. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly award extra points.

We find the remote maintenance service quite exciting, which can be utilized. If someone doesn't have the opportunity to go to the audiologist, they can instead contact them through the app, briefly describe their hearing issue, and receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they can upload it to their hearing aids.

Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Nexia 4 62-DRW. This ReSound hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options onboard. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but these are not necessary for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.

With a final grade of 2.92, this model holds its own in the mid-range. It comes with a quite decent comfort equipment that is sufficient for typical everyday moments and creates a satisfying listening experience.
