This test report introduces you to the Nexia 9 62-DRW from the manufacturer ReSound. Brief model classification: The Nexia 9 62-DRW is a small hearing aid worn behind the ear. It can compensate for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing needs and is a hearing aid of the highest quality level. A good sound is achieved by placing the small speaker in the ear canal.
Hearing comfort
Hearing aids are meant to not only bring speech to the ear but also sound pleasant. So, let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for an active daily life? Here in this test device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. As in any hearing aid, it also includes typical noise cancellation. It is designed to reduce consistent, noisy background sounds to the point where they no longer dominate. The Nexia 9 62-DRW has one of the most intense noise suppression systems on the market. When this is maximally adjusted, you have a real advantage over normal hearing individuals.
The Nexia 9 62-DRW impresses us with its wind reduction and delivers good performance in this regard. Short and sharp noises are usually annoying, but in this model, there is an adjustable impulse sound control. This makes sounds like cutlery clattering, slamming drawers, or rustling newspapers feel less unpleasant. With 17 frequency channels, the Nexia 9 62-DRW clearly belongs to the better devices and allows for an individual, well-sounding programming. As a normal hearing person, one typically doesn't think about spatial hearing. With this hearing aid, we don't have to either. A sophisticated system of directional microphones and bilateral wireless networking generates a 3D effect that closely resembles natural hearing.
An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this ReSound model.

Operation & connectivity
Would you like to be able to adjust something on your hearing aids yourself? We believe it can be quite useful to have one or another control option. Let's take a look at how it's done with the Nexia 9 62-DRW. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical as it is the simplest and fastest way to make a change. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to adjust anything directly at the ear, the button can of course also be deactivated. A remote control is available for the Nexia 9 62-DRW. It’s quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up-down option as well as various hearing programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from ReSound unfortunately cannot yet. It would be convenient when fingers are less agile or if you simply like smart gadgets. Tap Control would also have been an interesting feature. With that, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. However, this is not available in the Nexia 9 62-DRW yet.
Hearing aid apps are becoming increasingly popular. With the Nexia 9 62-DRW, we are lucky: there is a suitable app. We were completely thrilled with this app. Not only are there numerous ways to customize the hearing aids to individual hearing preferences, but the app also offers a lot of lifestyle features. You don't need headphones anymore because it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds from the smartphone directly to the ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security
How does one cope with the hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will evaluate. Because only if such a device works simply and easily can one become accustomed to it. With an exceptionally well-functioning situational automation, the Nexia 9 62-DRW excels in everyday performance. The finely tuned detection of the acoustic environment allows us to effortlessly move through different hearing situations without needing to adjust manually. This is exactly what we expect from a hearing aid. A great bonus of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is a tremendous relief. The volume does not need to be immediately turned up to the maximum. You can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost unnoticeably, the amplification approaches the target.
Unfortunately, the Nexia 9 62-DRW is not equipped with a battery, which means that you need to regularly use size 13 batteries for operation.
The datasheet certifies the ReSound device with an IP protection class rating of 68. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the housing as long as it does not submerge deeper than 1.5 m. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. Nevertheless, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras
We complete the test by looking for any extras available for you: We noticed the tinnitus option here. Those who wish can set up a special tinnitus program. This can provide a gentle sound to the ears to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.
A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a precious commodity. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. Anyone needing a new programming for their hearing aids can easily contact the audiologist via the app and describe their hearing wishes. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a custom setting as a data package to the app. From there, it will be loaded onto the hearing aid and can be immediately tested. This definitely earns extra points in our test.
If ReSound had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individual health tracking could even be possible. However, this is not the case here. These points are lost for the Nexia 9 62-DRW in the evaluation. It would have also been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but they are not present in the Nexia 9 62-DRW. Other hearing aids can score with speech translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
