Here we take a look at a hearing aid from the Business Class that is worn in the ear. It is called Active Pro IX ITC and comes from the manufacturer Signia. It can be used by everyone who has both mild and more severe hearing needs and desires a hearing aid that is not too conspicuous. Thanks to the placement in the recess of the outer ear, it has very good sound properties.
Hearing comfort
We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. However, from our experience in the hearing acoustics specialty shop, we also know that hearing comfort is at least equally important. It is about processing background noise in such a way that it does not hinder speech understanding, while still creating a natural sound image. During the test of the Active Pro IX ITC, we were excited about the excellent sound management. Let’s take a look at the individual features:
Of course, this Signia device has noise suppression, as it has become standard. Noise suppression means that uniform and rather monotonous sounds (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner...) are dampened. Here, the disruptive noises can be adjusted in several levels, allowing you to decide how much suppression is actually comfortable.
Quickly occurring, clattering noises are noticeably and sufficiently dampened, which we find pleasant. The Active Pro IX ITC impresses us with its wind reduction and offers good performance in this regard. We found a proud 20 equalizer bands in the Active Pro IX ITC. In each band, the hearing aid activates its sound management, filters out the disruptive components, and retains important speech elements. Sound modifications can be targeted and precisely implemented. We are very satisfied with that. Especially with sharp or steeply descending hearing curves, such a hearing aid can be very useful. Normal hearing people don’t usually think about spatial hearing. With this hearing aid, we don’t have to either. A sophisticated system of directional microphones and binaural wireless networking generates a 3D effect that comes very close to natural hearing.
Despite modern comfort features, tricky hearing situations can still arise. For that, the Active Pro IX ITC has an assistance mode in its app. Behind it is an artificial intelligence that analyzes the current environment and calculates a noticeably better setting.

Operation & connectivity
Would you like to be able to make some adjustments to your hearing aids yourself? We believe that having one or two operating options can be quite useful. Let's take a look at the Active Pro IX ITC. Unfortunately, this hearing aid lacks a direct control option. This is probably due to its small size. However, this doesn't have to be a disadvantage, as often the automatic functions are sufficient. A remote control for the hearing aid is available upon request. It allows for effortless volume adjustment. Not only is the handling child’s play, but no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.
In our tests, we found no option for voice control. This function is not necessarily required, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Some hearing aids can be controlled with a quick tap of the finger without the need to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
In our opinion, an app is better than a remote control, as everyone probably has a smartphone in their pocket. The app for the Active Pro IX ITC is really good; it has a lot of smart features that make listening in difficult situations much easier. It is quite complex, but you can quickly get the hang of it. In demo mode, you can practice a bit. There are also a few surprising additional tools - have fun exploring! One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headset, receiving phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. A compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz technology is required. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not just in one ear but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal preferences.

Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work simply and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? The situational automatic feature of the Active Pro IX ITC includes almost everything one might encounter in daily life. It provides me with the perfect setting at all times, without me having to do anything actively. Especially in varied phases, this is extremely convenient and makes me almost forget the hearing aid is in my ear. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.
In our opinion, a very useful development in recent years is the integrated battery. We are used to recharging electronic devices in our daily lives. The Active Pro IX ITC is also rechargeable, allowing us to avoid the hassle of changing batteries.
We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and find the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes a danger after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: Signia has integrated a sound generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A very good added benefit is the option for remote maintenance. Through the app, you can contact your audiologist and describe your hearing issue. They can adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. This is a fantastic service for people with little time or a long journey.
Special sensors in the Signia Active Pro IX ITC provide entirely new insights into your health status. For example, at the end of the day, you can check how many steps you've taken. By the way, you don't even need to have your smartphone with you while on the go. You just need to take a look at the app to read the data. The hearing aid does not include additional features like special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or a language translator. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
