The Signia Silk 2 IX charge&go in review
We tested a very small hearing aid this time from a price range slightly above average. It is the Signia Silk 2 IX charge&go. It is worn in the ear and is designed for mild to moderate hearing loss. The precise placement in the ear canal is due to its design, which also provides a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
What is most bothersome for hearing aid users? That's right, background noise. Therefore, let's first take a look at what comfort features the test device includes. In the Silk 2 IX charge&go, we found very few options for influencing comfort. A normal noise suppression system is definitely present. It is designed to dampen constant noises like traffic noise or the sound of an air conditioner. In our test device from Signia, the noise suppression delivers a rather mediocre performance. If you are not too sensitive to noise, that might be sufficient.
At least the Silk 2 IX charge&go includes a so-called pop filter. But is that always enough? The device from Signia can also detect wind noise, but it results in only a very slight reduction in sound. This is sufficient for normal everyday situations, but true outdoor enthusiasts will not be satisfied with that. We always take a close look at the number of equalizer bands. They are important for adjusting the sound of a hearing aid as accurately as possible to the hearing curve. Additionally, speech noise management takes place within these bands as well. The Silk 2 IX charge&go has 12 of them. That’s okay. Hearing aids like the Silk 2 IX charge&go preserve the natural sense of space, as we have experienced since childhood. The function of the auricle, head size, head shadow effects - all these parameters create a genuine, original 3D sound experience.
Signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet used here.

Operation & connectivity
Most hearing aids automatically adjust to their environment. However, it is sometimes very practical to make some changes yourself. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are currently feeling. We looked into the control options offered by the Silk 2 IX charge&go: First, we are interested in whether there is a button on the device. Unfortunately, we are disappointed with the charge&go; there is no immediate adjustment option. A remote control is available for the Silk 2 IX charge&go. It is quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume option as well as various hearing programs.
In the test, we found no option for voice control. This function is not necessarily required, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tapping control. You simply tap your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. However, this feature is not available in this Signia device.
We find the app for the Silk 2 IX charge&go a bit sparse. It’s best to check the demo version before purchasing the hearing aid to see if it meets your needs. But we do not want to complain; the app is definitely useful. There is no option for connecting to other audio sources. Too bad, because a wireless streaming function would have provided real added value.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 3,3

Simplicity & security
No matter how great the hearing aid sounds: nothing is more unpleasant than a product that constantly presents hurdles in everyday life. Therefore, simplicity and safety are very important topics in our hearing aid tests: automatic situational recognition is only rudimentarily integrated in the Silk 2 IX charge&go. We often have to fall back on the manual options and adjust our hearing aid to the environments ourselves. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This greatly facilitates the adjustment to the new sound.
The Silk 2 IX charge&go is rechargeable and no longer requires hearing aid batteries. This is environmentally friendly, as there are no old batteries to dispose of. At the same time, it is also extremely convenient because there is no need to carry spare batteries. The hearing aids simply go into the charging station at night and are ready to use the next morning.
The data sheet certifies the Signia device with an IP protection class rating of 68. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust doesn’t stand a chance, and water doesn’t penetrate the housing, as long as it isn’t submerged deeper than 1.5 meters. Nevertheless, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras
We are almost at the end, but maybe this device has a few gifts in the form of extra features? Let's take a look: We really liked the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Silk 2 IX charge&go is actually nothing more than a sound generator. It aims to produce broad-band noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all hearing areas. The tinnitus gets drowned out in it and is no longer perceived as disturbing.
A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service to get help from a hearing professional even when one cannot come to the store. But unfortunately, this is not available here, so there is no extra point for it.
Many hearing aids today still have a few health functions included. However, since the Silk 2 IX charge&go does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any particularities here. The hearing aid does without additional functions such as special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or speech translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
