The Signia Silk 5 IX charge&go in review
What hearing comfort does the Silk 5 IX charge&go offer? How is it operated? Is the purchase worth it? Answers to these questions can be found in our review of this hearing aid from Signia. First, the basics: It is worn in the ear, and due to its precise placement directly in the ear canal, sound can easily travel toward the eardrum. This is important because only in this way can a truly good, wide-band sound be produced.
The Silk 5 IX charge&go is a small, barely visible hearing aid from the premium class that can cover mild to moderate hearing loss. Read more details:
Hearing comfort
In our test, we typically start with the analysis of comfort features. A comfortable sound is characterized by a mix of speech and ambient noises that is realistic and, at the same time, as pleasant as possible. Various electronic tools take care of all the sounds. The Silk 5 IX charge&go allows for solid comfort programming by the audiologist. One of the noise tools is noise suppression, which is intended to dampen sounds like traffic noise, refrigerator hum, or PC fan noise. This works quite well. In a normal hearing environment, it is certainly manageable.
A pulse sound attenuator for short, sharp noises is reasonably integrated here and is completely sufficient in everyday life. Wind is another issue that can limit hearing comfort outdoors. However, the Silk 5 IX charge&go handles this confidently and activates wind noise suppression in such situations. This, by the way, is adjustable in steps. The special design of the Silk 5 IX charge&go turns out to be a stroke of luck when it comes to spatial hearing. The microphones are positioned deep in the ear canal, and precisely there is where sound reaches even people with normal hearing. Thus, spatial hearing does not need to be artificially recreated; it occurs quite naturally. 18 adjustable equalizer bands provide enough leeway to generate a reliable, tailored listening experience.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this Signia model.

Operation & connectivity
Occasionally, one finds themselves in situations where it would be good if the hearing aid could be adjusted differently. After all, we live in hectic times where the acoustic environment often changes. Most hearing aids have specific options for influencing the settings themselves. This is how it looks with the Silk 5 IX charge&go: First, we are interested in whether there is a button on the device. Unfortunately, we are disappointed with the charge&go, as there is no immediate adjustment option. We do like the small remote controls, and for this model, we have found one. This allows for discreet small adjustments to the volume or sound.
For some time now, there has been a trend to control hearing aids with voice commands to make them louder or quieter. The idea is really good, but Signia has not yet implemented this feature in this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it is not essential. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be possible, which would trigger a specific function by tapping the fingers on the ear. However, this option is not available in the Silk 5 IX charge&go.
If desired, the free smartphone app can be used. This app probably only covers the essentials. Loud, quiet, and programs – nothing more is included. If you were looking forward to wireless streaming, we unfortunately have to disappoint you, as a wireless module has not been integrated here.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 3,3

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its suitability for everyday use. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. The automatic situation recognition has a high priority in our test. The better it works, the easier it is for our hearing to get through the day. The Silk 5 IX charge&go performs excellently here and adapts to many situations. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually raises the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually acclimate to the new hearing impressions.
The Silk 5 IX charge&go is rechargeable and does not require batteries anymore. This is not only environmentally friendly but also very convenient to handle, freeing me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery supplies.
The Silk 5 IX is virtually dust- and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras
Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: Are you among those suffering from tinnitus? If so, you could use the optional tinnitus program in the Silk 5 IX charge&go. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction technique, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and no longer bothers you. This is a simple yet effective tool, and it earns extra points from us.
An online contact to the audiologist through the app would be very useful. This is quite common today and provides assistance with small adjustment issues. Unfortunately, Signia has chosen not to include this, and therefore does not earn extra points.
There are no sensors in this Silk 5 IX variant, so the popular health tracking feature cannot be offered either. For example, daily steps are counted. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this function onboard. It would have also been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but those are not available in the Silk 5 IX charge&go. Other hearing aids can score points with speech translators or fall alerts, but here it remains at the usual range of functions.
