This time we tested a small hearing aid from a price range slightly above the average. It is the Signia Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC. It is worn behind the ear and is intended for mild to moderate hearing loss. The placement of the speaker directly in the ear canal is due to its design, which is why it also delivers a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
In the hearing comfort section, we look at how a hearing aid deals with all the background noise. Comfortable noise management contributes significantly to a user's liking and regular use of their hearing aids. In this Signia device, we found few options for comfort influence. The regular noise suppression is designed to moderate uniform, noise-like background sounds. With the Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC, you shouldn't have too high expectations. Street noise outside will certainly be adequately reduced, but what is loud will remain loud.
After all, the Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC includes a so-called noise filter. But is that always enough? This device can detect wind and slightly reduce the noise. The hearing aid can automatically align itself with the speaker in front, but we do not receive much more support for spatial hearing from the Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC. An important point in our tests is the number of frequency bands. This plays a role when it comes to the precise programming of hearing aids. This number is also important when distinguishing between speech and sounds. Here we have 8 bands. There could certainly have been a few more, as this unfortunately limits our ability to make finer adjustments. However, those who do not place such a high value on a brilliant sound experience could get along quite well with the Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC.
For difficult hearing situations, Signia has a special strategy: In the app, you will find an assistance function that allows for spontaneous and customized adjustments based on artificial intelligence. It is a kind of intelligent immediate assistance, in case you are not near your audiologist.

Operation & connectivity
The control options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one would like. The basic functions operate fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how a user can access the Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC beyond that. Often there is a button on the hearing aid, but we did not find one on this model. Sometimes, this control element is omitted in favor of a smaller design. This is not too dramatic, as most functions in the hearing aid operate automatically anyway. Those who prefer not to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for easy and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
In the test, we found no option for voice control. This feature is not necessarily required, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, tap control could be a possibility, which would trigger a specific function by tapping the ear with one's fingers. However, this option is not available in the Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC.
It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app for the Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC. In our opinion, the range of functions is moderate, but mostly sufficient. It's best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. You no longer need headphones here, as it has a wireless option and can directly transmit sounds from the smartphone to the ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Of course, we are also interested in how quickly one can get used to the Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC and how easy daily use is. The Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC can independently distinguish between quiet and noisy environments, but there isn’t much more in the programming automation. Manual adjustment options are hardly avoidable here. The device supports the adaptation to the new hearing experience with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely balanced. I don’t have to do anything other than regularly wear my hearing aids.
The Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly but also very convenient to handle and frees me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery replacement.
The hearing aid has been classified in protection class IP68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily harm the hearing aid. This makes it well-equipped for outdoor activities where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not go bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can change the composition and can ultimately cause damage.

Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid offers any specials: Are you one of those suffering from tinnitus? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction technique, and it works remarkably well. The tinnitus disappears in the general noise and does not annoy anymore. This is a simple yet effective tool and earns extra points from us.
Signia keeps up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the remote fitting service. Working people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Also, hearing aid users who have a longer journey to the specialty store benefit from this special service.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the Styletto 2 AX SLIM RIC does not have any specific sensors for that, we cannot present any particular features here. This Signia hearing aid does not have any further lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
