Once again, we are focusing on a hearing aid from the company Widex. This time, it is an earlier widely used behind-the-ear hearing aid named Moment 110 BTE R D. It is a small-sized hearing aid, and in terms of price, it belongs to a good, mid-range quality level. It can be used for moderate, stronger, and changing hearing losses. Let's take a look at what the internals have to offer:
Hearing comfort
We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. From our experience in the hearing aid specialist store, we also know that hearing comfort is at least equally important. It’s about processing background noises so that they do not restrict speech understanding, while still creating a natural sound experience. In the test of the Moment 110 BTE R D, we find only the absolute necessities regarding hearing comfort. Let’s take a look at the individual features:
Of course, this Widex device has noise suppression, as it has become standard by now. Noise suppression means that uniform and rather monotonous sounds (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner...) are dampened. We had hoped for a bit more adjustability here, but – well.
A filter for rattling, popping noises is not present here – unfortunately, no point for that. Wind noise is also a topic. Many people like to stay outdoors and are then a bit disturbed by the wind. Unfortunately, there is no wind management here, so one simply has to endure the sounds of the air movements. The Moment 110 BTE R D has only 6 frequency bands and meets just the minimum requirements. One should not have overly high expectations regarding sound quality. The microphone technology is kept quite simple. The hearing aids cannot create a genuine sense of space like those with normal hearing experience. If one wants to assess directions or distances through hearing, one must be cautious; this is only reliably achieved after a certain acclimatization period, if at all.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet utilized here.

Operation & connectivity
Almost everyone of us owns a smartphone, so the question arises whether it can also be connected to the new hearing aid. Let's take a look at the connectivity and usability of the Moment 110 BTE R D. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Moment 110 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. A remote control is available for the Moment 110 BTE R D. It's quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up/down option as well as various listening programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Widex unfortunately cannot yet. That would be practical, especially if fingers are not as agile anymore or if one simply likes smart gadgets. Tap Control would also have been an interesting feature. With that, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. However, this feature is not yet available in the Moment 110 BTE R D.
In the App Store, we also find a suitable application from Widex. The app for the Moment 110 BTE R D isn’t one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. The Moment 110 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over people with normal hearing. We appreciate this and are happy to give points.

Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work easily and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? The automatic situation recognition is supposed to make listening easier. However, the Moment 110 BTE R D struggles with changing or difficult acoustic environments, as it lacks some adaptive algorithms. Additionally, you should always have a few extra hearing programs adjusted for this device. The adaptation to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in hardly noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I don’t have to do anything other than wear my hearing aids regularly.
Easy handling in everyday life definitely includes the power supply as well. The Moment 110 BTE R D has a built-in rechargeable battery and can be recharged repeatedly. Since one charge lasts for the entire day, we don’t have to worry about the battery dying in the middle of a conversation.
The hearing aid has been rated at IP protection class 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily damage the hearing aid. This makes it well-equipped for outdoor activities, where it can get wet and dirty. However, you should still avoid bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can change the composition and ultimately cause damage.

Zum Schluss schauen wir kurz, ob es noch irgendwelche Extras gibt: Gehören Sie zu den Tinnitus-Geplagten? Dann könnten Sie das optionale Tinnitusprogramm im Moment 110 BTE R D verwenden. Leise, sanfte Klänge werden auf Ihr Gehör abgestimmt und beschäftigten alle Bereiche im Innenohr. Das ist nichts weiter als ein Ablenkungsmanöver, und es funktioniert erstaunlich gut. Der Tinnitus verschwindet in dem allgemeinen Geräusch und nervt nicht weiter. Das ist ein einfaches, aber wirksames Tool und bekommt von uns Extrapunkte.
Spannend finden wir den Fernwartungsdienst, den man in Anspruch nehmen kann. Wenn man keine Gelegenheit hat, zum Hörakustiker zu fahren, kontaktiert man ihn stattdessen über die App, beschreibt kurz sein Hörproblem und erhält anschließend ein Datenpaket mit einer neuen Hörgerätkonfiguration. Wenn die sich gut anhört, lädt man sie in seine Hörgeräte.
Ein neuer Trend in der Hörgerätebranche sind integrierte Sensoren, mit denen z.B. ein paar persönliche Gesundheitsdaten getrackt werden können. Das hat das Moment 110 BTE R D aber nicht im Angebot. Das Gerät von Widex konzentriert sich auf die wesentlichen Hörfunktionen und bietet keine Extras wie Srachassistenten oder Übersetzungsfunktion an. Das hätte zwar Spaß gemacht, ist für ein gutes Hörerlebnis aber nicht erforderlich.

Im Gesamtergebnis landet dieses Testgerät auf den hinteren Plätzen und lässt einige Ausstattungsmerkmale vermissen. Wir vergeben die Note 3,93. Für anspruchsarme Hörer ist das in Ordnung, für einen sehr aktiven Lebensstil empfehlen wir allerdings ein Hörgerät mit umfangreicheren Komfortmerkmalen.
