After Starkey became the first manufacturer ever to integrate a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) directly into its hearing aids in 2024, expectations for further innovations from the U.S. at the 2025´s trade show were initially somewhat restrained. But Starkey continues to live up to its reputation as an innovation leader: with the new G3 Neuro Processor, the company is already launching the next, further enhanced generation – the Starkey Omega AI.
Note: An NPU (Neural Processing Unit) is a specialized chip designed to handle AI tasks such as speech processing extremely quickly and energy-efficiently – delivering maximum performance with minimal power consumption.
So what does this new device do better than its predecessor, the Starkey Edge AI?
Tip: In this article, we are deliberately focusing on the latest technical advancements rather than repeating all existing features. We therefore recommend taking a look at our review of the previous model first. This will help you better understand and evaluate the current improvements.

A DNN (Deep Neural Network) is a form of artificial intelligence used in modern hearing aids to analyze complex listening environments in real time.
In itself, that’s no longer new. The DNN 360° in Starkey Omega AI is the logical next step in the evolution of previous DNN processing strategies.

DNN On-Demand (Starkey Genesis AI)
With DNN On-Demand, the neural network was activated only when needed – for example, in clearly recognized conversation situations or specific acoustic environments. The system responded situationally and engaged AI processing precisely when it was required. This approach helped conserve energy while still improving speech understanding in challenging moments.
DNN Always-On (Starkey Edge AI)
With DNN Always-On, the neural network was active continuously, analyzing the listening environment in real time. Changes in the acoustic situation could be detected and processed instantly, without any noticeable delay. This resulted in smoother transitions and more consistent sound quality throughout the day.
DNN 360° (Starkey Omega AI)
With DNN 360°, AI processing is not only permanently active – it also dynamically controls directionality in every direction (360°). The result is a more natural sense of space and significantly improved speech clarity, even in complex listening environments.

DNN Spatial Awareness ensures that all essential sound information is preserved—crucial for accurate directional hearing, a sense of spatial depth, and a natural listening experience.

DNN Directionality refers to an AI-powered directional microphone system that continuously analyzes the listening environment and automatically adjusts the focus of the microphones. This allows speech to be clearly prioritized, even in challenging and dynamic sound situations.
To achieve this, Starkey expanded the DNN with two additional components:
By combining DNN Directionality and DNN Spatial Awareness with the existing full-surround microphone system and motion-based optimization already introduced in previous models, Starkey Omega AI delivers exceptionally clear, vibrant, and natural sound – even in acoustically demanding situations. At the same time, full environmental awareness is maintained at all times.
Despite its continuously active, more precise, and more advanced DNN signal processing, the new Starkey Omega AI offers an impressive battery life of up to 51 hours – a level that is currently unmatched in this performance class.
A new, enhanced waterproof coating replaces the previous water-resistant technology used in earlier models. This provides even more reliable protection against moisture and sweat, making the devices more durable in everyday use.
With its new AI-powered features, the Starkey Omega AI becomes an intelligent everyday companion. Whether it’s voice control, automatic sound adjustments, or real-time product support, Gen AI Smart Assistant, TeleHear AI, and AI Assist are designed to provide greater comfort, increased independence, and immediate help exactly when it’s needed.
The Gen AI Smart Assistant allows you to control your hearing aids simply by using your voice. You can ask questions, switch programs, or set reminders without having to pick up your smartphone. Everything works hands-free and intuitively through voice commands – making daily life easier and more independent.
TeleHear AI supports you around the clock. After you describe the issue, the AI analyzes the situation and automatically adjusts the sound settings – quickly, precisely, and without having to wait for an in-office appointment. This means you can receive support exactly when you need it.
AI Assist uses generative artificial intelligence combined with Starkey’s existing product knowledge to answer product-related questions quickly, accurately, and in clear, easy-to-understand language – directly through your hearing aids or the companion app.
The Starkey app includes a wide range of integrated health features designed to help you stay proactive about your well-being. These include fall detection and alerts, step tracking, activity monitoring, and tracking of social engagement.
New additions include Balance Builder and respiratory rate monitoring. These features expand the existing health tools and allow you to keep an even closer eye on balance, stability, and key vital signs.
Balance Builder is designed to help you actively reduce the risk of falls. Guided exercises that focus on body awareness and balance help improve stability and strengthen your confidence in everyday movement.
Respiratory rate monitoring is a unique feature within the hearing aid industry. It allows you to track your breathing rate in real time, helping you stay informed about an important vital sign and take a more active role in managing your overall health.

RIC 312: A behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aid powered by a size 312 battery, with the receiver placed directly in the ear canal. Wireless connectivity included.

RIC RT: A rechargeable behind-the-ear RIC hearing aid with an external receiver and integrated telecoil. Waterproof, wireless, rechargeable, and equipped with an LED indicator.

mRIC R: Similar to the rechargeable RIC model and worn behind the ear with an external receiver, but noticeably smaller in size. Waterproof, wireless, rechargeable, and with LED indicator.

ITC R: This rechargeable in-the-ear model is significantly smaller than an ITE device, yet still sits visibly in the outer ear. Waterproof, wireless, and rechargeable.

CIC W: A battery-powered completely-in-canal hearing aid featuring a Bluetooth antenna integrated into the removal string. Wireless connectivity included.
24: Premium level, unlocking the full range of features and performance.
20: Advanced technology designed for an active and varied lifestyle.
16: Mid-level technology for everyday listening situations.
With the Omega AI platform, Starkey introduces a technically sophisticated generation of hearing aids that seamlessly integrates artificial intelligence into everyday use. Features such as the new DNN 360 help bring speech clarity and environmental awareness together in a more natural way.
Additional tools like the Gen AI Smart Assistant, TeleHear AI, and enhanced health tracking features highlight Starkey’s vision of transforming hearing aids into true multifunctional everyday companions. As a result, Omega AI holds a strong position in today’s hearing aid market and delivers impressive performance in demanding listening environments.
And while it may almost feel expected from Starkey by now: the new technology is available across all styles—from RIC to CIC. This level of consistency across the entire product range remains unique in the hearing aid market.
