The Audio Service BM7 4 HdO in review
Die Technik dieser Gerätefamilie ist bereits überholt. Wir haben die Bewertung deshalb mit einem Abschlag in der Gesamtnote versehen. Zur neuesten Chiptechnik des Herstellers geht es hier entlang: Audio Service G8
Once again, we are focusing on a hearing aid from the company Audio Service. This time, it is a classic behind-the-ear hearing aid named BM7 4 HdO. It is a discreet hearing aid, and it falls into the more affordable category in terms of price. It can be used for almost any hearing need. Let’s take a look at what the interior has to offer:
Hearing comfort
First, we evaluate the hearing comfort features. What types of noises does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied everyday life? Here with this test device, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. As with all hearing aids, we also find the typical background noise suppression. It is supposed to reduce monotonous, noisy ambient sounds to the point where they no longer dominate. With the BM7 4 HdO, we do have noise reduction, but it's not very strong and is not adjustable.
When the wind sweeps over the microphones outside in nature, we wish for wind noise reduction. However, that is missing here, and in some outdoor situations, this can significantly affect hearing comfort. Unfortunately, the BM7 4 HdO does not contain an impulse sound suppressor. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adapting to hearing needs. Here, the HdO provides only 8 and does not allow for many fine-tuning options in the long term. A natural spatial hearing is lacking in this device, which does cause some difficulties in daily life. We can no longer reliably detect directions. Those with limited vision should consider choosing a different hearing aid.
An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this audio service model does not apply it yet.

Operation & connectivity
Since you probably don't have your audiologist by your side all the time, it's quite helpful to be able to make changes to the hearing aid yourself. There are various control options available, and we will take a look at what the BM7 4 HdO offers. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can change the volume or activate additional listening programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. The usage is, of course, optional. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is through the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're talking to speaks too softly, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional listening programs for music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
The modern form of operation via voice command is not yet found in the BM7 4 HdO. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of a finger without needing to press a button. However, this feature is not yet implemented here.
In the app stores, there is a free app that can be used if desired. We tried it out and were relatively quick to navigate through it. The range of functions is rather modest. Nevertheless, it is a convenient and unobtrusive way to adjust the BM7 4 HdO temporarily. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headset, allowing it to receive phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. A compatible smartphone that contains 2.4 GHz technology is required. The biggest advantage is that you can hear calls not just in one ear but in both. Additionally, the sound can be adjusted to personal preferences.

Simplicity & security
We continue the test with a brief assessment of how easy everyday use will be. Is it complicated? Do I need to pay special attention? Or do I not need to consider anything further? The program automation in the BM7 4 HdO provides us with relatively little support. Without a few individual hearing programs, one will probably not manage in a lively everyday environment. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing target is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.
The BM7 4 HdO is not rechargeable; it operates on hearing aid batteries. Unlike a rechargeable battery, it does not need to be charged daily, but the size 13 battery will be changed after a few days.
The BM7 4 is almost dust- and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,8
Extras
We all like goodies, which is why we will take a final look at the extras that may be hidden in the hearing aid. First, we look for a special tinnitus program. Ear noise is a persistent issue for many people. However, we did not find any option for tinnitus relief in the BM7 4 HdO.
A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a precious commodity. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. Anyone who needs a new programming of their hearing aids can simply contact their audiologist via the app and describe their hearing wishes. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a customized setting as a data package to the app. From there, it will be loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.
If Audio Service had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, it could even allow for individual health tracking. However, that is not the case here. These points are lost for the BM7 4 HdO in the scoring. It would have also been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but they are not available in the BM7 4 HdO. Other hearing aids can score points with language translators or fall alarms, but here it remains at the usual range of features.
Rating Extras: 3,3
Conclusion: Audio Service BM7 4 HdO
This test device scores low overall and lacks some features. We give it a rating of 4.36. For casual listeners, this is acceptable, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
