Once again, we are looking at an earlier widely used hearing aid for mild, moderate, and even strong hearing needs: This model is called BP7 4 HdO and comes from the company Audio Service. It is worn behind the ear, and it is a slightly visible hearing aid. The BP7 4 HdO is a model in a lower price range. Let's see if the pricing is justified.
Hearing comfort
Good speech comprehension is taken for granted in modern hearing aids. Equally important is hearing comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will hearing be perceived as pleasant. That’s why we take a look at the comfort features: In the BP7 4 BTE, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Normal environmental noises such as street noise, the vacuum cleaner sound, or that from the fan should be dampened by classic noise suppression. In this Audio Service hearing aid, there is only minimal basic attenuation. Users should have a certain tolerance for noise here.
An impulse sound attenuator is unfortunately not included in the BP7 4 BTE. Unfortunately, this hearing aid still lacks wind noise suppression. What a pity. We have to do without spatial hearing with the BP7 4 BTE, but at least the microphones can be switched to a focus mode. With 8 frequency bands, we are not completely satisfied with the BTE, but this should be sufficient for uncomplicated hearing curves. The sound will probably not be very natural with this.
Audio Service is not yet using artificial intelligence in this version.

Operation & connectivity
The majority of hearing aids adjust automatically to their environment. Nonetheless, it is sometimes very practical to make some changes on your own. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are feeling at the moment. We have examined the operating options that the BP7 4 HdO offers: The simplest operating option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This particular model has one as well. It can be programmed to your liking. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a stepwise adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you want to leave everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A discreet way to modify the hearing aid is with the remote control. It fits in any pocket. When the person you're talking to speaks too softly again, just a click or two is enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Voice commands are a fairly new way to operate hearing aids. However, this model does not have this option yet. That is not a big deal - the main thing is that one can hear well. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tapping control. You simply tap your ear with your fingers, which in turn triggers a specific function. But this audio service device does not have this possibility.
If you like, you can download an app. This provides a convenient and discreet way to change the volume or hearing programs on the BP7 4 HdO. It all works quite well. You don’t need headphones anymore, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to your ears – if the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

The BP7 4 HdO automatically accesses the most important hearing settings, making daily use easier. However, those who frequently experience changing acoustic environments should have the manual supplementary programs configured. Some people have difficulty adapting, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is an adaptation manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The period can range from a few weeks to several months, which can be individually adjusted. The individual steps are so small that you don't even notice there was an increase in volume.

The data sheet certifies the Audio Service device with an IP protection class 68. This makes it one of the most durable hearing aids on the market. Dust doesn't stand a chance, and water does not penetrate the housing, as long as it doesn't submerge deeper than 1.5 meters. Nevertheless, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave completely carefree.

We all like goodies, so let's take a look at the extras that may be hidden in the hearing aid. We would have liked to discover a tinnitus program at this point, but unfortunately, there isn't one.
We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If one doesn’t have the opportunity to visit the hearing care professional, they can contact them instead via the app, briefly describe their hearing issue, and subsequently receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they upload it to their hearing aids.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the BP7 4 HdO does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any particular features here. The hearing aid forfeits additional functions like special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or speech translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
