The Audio Service G5 12 Duo Li-Ion in review
Audio Service is launching its G5 12 Duo Li-Ion, a previously widely used hearing aid from the high price segment. It is a slightly visible hearing aid for mild, moderate, and severe hearing loss and is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
The hearing comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. That’s why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model, which Audio Service presents to us, solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to minimize stressful background sounds. In the G5 12 Duo Li-Ion, the noise suppression is solid. There are hearing aids that have a significantly more effective reduction, but this one should be sufficient for normal requirements. We rate the wind management as average, but it works.
The noise filter in this hearing aid is quite solid and practical for everyday use. The adjustable microphones help detect certain directions and can also assist with noise cancellation, although the spatial sound was not very natural. Those who want a hearing aid with a lot of flexibility will be well served with the G5 12 Duo Li-Ion. It has 16 frequency channels and thus offers great adjustment options. The sound can be modified according to individual preferences, even after several years.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet being utilized here.
Rating Hearing comfort: 3,2
Operation & connectivity
Most functions of this audio service model are activated automatically. However, it can be very useful to expand the range of features a bit. In our test, we found out what options we have here. For those who want to quickly and easily increase or decrease the volume, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special listening situations through it. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're talking to is too quiet again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Audio Service unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical if fingers are no longer very mobile or if you simply like smart gadgets. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be conceivable, where a specific function is triggered by tapping the ear with your fingers. However, this option is not available in the G5 12 Duo Li-Ion.
The manual operation includes an app. This allows you to access the hearing aid discreetly. In addition to volume control, you can also set hearing programs and a few other functions. Problems with phone calls on a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely wirelessly transmitted to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls and while listening to music during sports. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz radio technology is needed.

Simplicity & security
We are also interested in how quickly one can adapt to the G5 12 Duo Li-Ion and how easy daily use is. Typical hearing situations that everyone experiences in their environment are reliably recognized and adjusted through automatic controls. However, for more specific, recurring needs, one cannot avoid using the manual hearing programs. A great benefit of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has had difficulty hearing for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is a tremendous relief. The volume does not have to be immediately set to maximum. You can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost unnoticed, the amplification approaches the target.
The G5 12 Duo Li-Ion contains a rechargeable battery. We find this great, as rechargeable hearing aids are absolutely modern. You don’t have to keep batteries lying around everywhere, nor do you need to change the battery in the middle of a concert. The hearing aid simply plugs into the charging station overnight and has enough energy for the following day.
The data sheet certifies the Audio Service device with an IP protection class of 68. This makes it one of the most resistant hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water also does not penetrate the casing unless submerged deeper than 1.5 meters. Nonetheless, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras
Before we come to the end, let's take a look at the extras: We really liked the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the G5 12 Duo Li-Ion is essentially nothing more than a sound generator. It is designed to produce broad-band noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all hearing areas. The tinnitus is masked by it and is no longer perceived as disturbing.
Online services are becoming increasingly commonplace. There is often a remote maintenance service for hearing aids. However, Audio Service has not yet provided this for its G5 12 Duo Li-Ion. So, one has to go to the specialty store every time they want to reprogram their hearing aid. No extra points for that.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track, for example, some personal health data. However, the G5 12 Duo Li-Ion does not offer this. This Audio Service hearing aid has no further lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but they are not necessary for good hearing. They would have just made the product a bit cooler.
Rating Extras: 3,3
Conclusion: Audio Service G5 12 Duo Li-Ion
This test device ranks in the lower positions overall and is missing some features. We give it a score of 4.11. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable; however, for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
