Hearing aids are meant to not only bring speech to the ear but also sound pleasant. So let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively everyday life? Here, in this test device, a solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. As in every hearing aid, there is also the typical noise reduction included here. It is intended to reduce uniform, humming background noises to the point where they are no longer so dominant. We would classify the noise reduction of the Serene 6 76 DWC as mediocre. It is sufficient if you do not live in a very noisy environment.
The Serene 6 76 DWC is also equipped for windy outdoor situations. The signal processing can identify wind and reduce it a bit. Most functions are activated automatically by this Beltone model. However, it can be very useful to have the option to expand the functionality a bit further. In our tests, we found out what options we have here. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Serene 6 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or a program selection button, and it can also be disabled if desired. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the volume of the hearing aid or switch to another hearing program. Nobody notices, and there's no need to reach for the ear.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Beltone unfortunately cannot yet. That would be practical if fingers are not as mobile anymore or if one simply likes smart gadgets. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With that, one could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But that is not yet available in the Serene 6 76 DWC.
Apps for hearing aids are now widespread. This one for the Serene 6 76 DWC sparked our playful side. It is fun to use this app because it enhances the functionality of the hearing aid with a few very useful tools. We really enjoyed direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone can be transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into a perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is also incredibly comfortable.

Next up in the test: How does it perform in terms of user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? Hearing is greatly facilitated by good situational awareness. In the Serene 6 76 DWC, we found a quite solid automatic feature that adapts well to common hearing situations. This might be sufficient if the acoustic conditions are not too challenging. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the hearing aid's volume in tiny little steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. This allows us to relax and gradually get used to the new auditory impressions.
The Serene 6 76 DWC is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly but also very convenient to handle, freeing me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery replacements.
We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and discover in the datasheet that it has protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes a danger after prolonged immersion. It also includes protection against contact.

We have covered the main factors in our test report. Before we finish, let's look for a few extras: We really liked the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Serene 6 76 DWC is nothing more than a sound generator. It aims to produce broad-spectrum noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all areas of hearing. The tinnitus is drowned out and no longer perceived as disturbing.
A real added value is the remote maintenance service. For a change in the hearing aid settings, you no longer have to go to the specialist store; you can directly contact the acoustician through the app. Through a cloud service, you can then upload the new data package into the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.
This Serene 6 variant does not have sensors, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this function on board. Other hearing aids already have some extended options like a fall alarm or reminder functions. We don't find that here, and that's not so dramatic, because the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
