What exactly can the Alpha 1 MNB T from the manufacturer Bernafon do? First of all, it is a conventional hearing aid that sits behind the ear. It covers mild to severe hearing losses. This model is a discreet hearing aid from the lower mid-range. What can it achieve in everyday hearing situations? What comfort features does it offer? We took a closer look at that.
Hearing comfort
Good speech understanding is standard in contemporary hearing aids. Equally important is listening comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will hearing be perceived as pleasant. That’s why we take a look at the comfort features: With the Alpha 1 MNB T, we found very few options for comfort adjustment. Normal ambient noises such as street noise, vacuum cleaner noise, or sounds from the fan should be dampened by traditional noise suppression. This Bernafon hearing aid has only a very slight, non-modifiable noise reduction implemented.
A filter for rattling or popping noises is not available here – unfortunately, that’s a drawback. Those who enjoy spending time outdoors will appreciate the wind noise suppression. While it may not be very strong, it is definitely useful. We have to forgo spatial hearing with the Alpha 1 MNB T, but at least the microphones can be switched to a focus mode. We always take a close look at the number of equalizer bands. They are important for adapting the sound of a hearing aid as accurately as possible to the hearing curve. Additionally, speech noise management also occurs within these bands. The Alpha 1 MNB T has 12 of them. That’s okay.
By the way, it could be that with this Bernafon device, you perceive the sound as clearer and more natural, especially in noisy environments. This is likely due to the implemented artificial intelligence. The hearing aid has already been fed millions of real sounds, leading to a significantly improved differentiation between speech and noise.

Operation & connectivity
Almost every one of us owns a smartphone, so the question arises whether it can be connected to the new hearing aid as well. Let's take a look at the connectivity and usability of the Alpha 1 MNB T. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to the customer's wishes. Of course, usage is optional. A remote control is available for the Alpha 1 MNB T. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up-down option as well as different hearing programs.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Bernafon has not yet reached this stage with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice but is not essential. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap of a finger in this Bernafon model, as it would have required specific sensors in the housing.
It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app available for the Alpha 1 MNB T. In our opinion, the range of functions is mediocre, but usually sufficient. It’s best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. Problems when making calls with a smartphone belong to the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely transmitted wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls as well as for listening to music while exercising. Everything worked smoothly and seamlessly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is required.

We are also interested in how quickly one can get used to the Alpha 1 MNB T and how easy daily use is. The program automation in the Alpha 1 MNB T provides us with relatively little support. Without a few individual hearing programs, it is likely challenging to cope in a lively day-to-day environment. A great feature of this hearing device is the automatic acclimatization. Especially for those who have been hearing poorly for a long time and are wearing a hearing aid for the first time, this is an enormous relief. The volume does not need to be cranked up all at once. You can start at a lower level and gradually, almost unnoticed, the amplification approaches the target.
Alpha 1 MNB T relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with a battery. Unlike rechargeable solutions, you only rarely have to worry about the power supply. Disadvantage: Waste is generated in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 13.
We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and find the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes a danger after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Extras
At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for the extra features: A special tinnitus program can be programmed in the Alpha 1 MNB T upon request. This allows stimulating, pleasant sounds to be generated that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly award extra points.
The remote adjustment feature is really great. It is especially helpful when you only want to change a small detail in the hearing aid settings but do not want to make a trip to the audiologist. Instead, you can make contact through the app, and the hearing professional sends a customized data package back the same way.
If Bernafon had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individual health tracking could even be possible. However, this is not the case here. These points are lost for the Alpha 1 MNB T in the scoring. You should take a closer look at the app for this Bernafon device. There are a few extras in it that significantly expand the functionality of these hearing aids. We really think these additional features are great!
