The Beat FS 3 R T 13 allows for solid comfort programming by the audiologist. There is definitely a normal noise suppression feature present. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels can still be worked with quite well. The hearing aid automatically decides whether the microphones should be directed towards a speaker or not. There is a decent spatial impression, but accurately determining directions or estimating distances using hearing is not so easy.

Even in hearing aids, the use of artificial intelligence has made its way in, for example, here in the Beat FS 3 R T 13. This provides a lot more data to identify speech and noise. In our experience, the sound of hearing aids equipped with AI is perceived as particularly precise and realistic.

We believe this is the fastest way to adjust the volume or switch the hearing program. Now it gets really modern: with tap control, Hansaton's hearing aid can be easily switched. Sensors in the housing detect the touch when you briefly tap your ear with your fingers. And what happens next is determined together with your hearing care professional. For example, you can activate voice control or switch to a special program.

It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app for the Beat FS 3 R T 13. In our opinion, the range of functions is average, but mostly sufficient. It’s best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone are transferred to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This makes the hearing aid the perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is also incredibly comfortable.

Simplicity & security

Another point on our checklist is handling. Is everything easy and reliable? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe usage in everyday life? Unfortunately, the ease of hearing with the Beat FS 3 R T 13 is not very good. The situational automation is quite limited, providing little support when it gets loud around us. This can be compensated by using the manual adjustment options. However, that doesn't score much in terms of simplicity. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually raises the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is reached. We can relax and gradually adapt to the new hearing impressions.

Unfortunately, the Beat FS 3 R T 13 is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so regular size 13 batteries are needed for operation.

We had a carefree everyday life during our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and subsequently removed the hearing aids with wet hands—no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or saltwater.

As there is increasing storage space in apps or the hearing aids themselves, it's worth taking a look at possible extra features. Here's what it looks like: Are you among those plagued by tinnitus? Then you might use the optional tinnitus program in the Beat FS 3 R T 13. Soft, gentle sounds are tuned to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's simply a distraction maneuver, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus disappears into the general noise and no longer bothers you. This is a simple but effective tool and earns extra points from us.

A clever tool is the integrated remote servicing feature. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a precious commodity. Therefore, such a remote servicing option is absolutely appropriate. If someone needs to reprogram their hearing aids, they can easily contact the audiologist through the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a customized setting as a data package to the app. From there, it gets loaded onto the hearing device and can be tried out immediately. This definitely earns extra points in our test.

A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track some personal health data. However, the Beat FS 3 R T 13 does not offer this. The functionality of the Beat FS 3 R T 13 is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional features like fall alerts or Siri integrations do provide some added value but are not relevant for good hearing balance.
