Bernafon presents the Alpha 7 MNR T, a model from the premium price range. It can compensate for a mild, moderate, and severe hearing loss. It is a discreet hearing aid that delivers good sound quality thanks to the clever decision to place the speaker directly in the ear canal. It is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
At least as important as speech understanding is listening comfort. After all, our environment should sound as realistic and pleasant as possible. So let's take a look at noise management: In this model, which Bernafon offers, the manufacturer provides customers with comprehensive noise management. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to soften tiring background noises. In the Alpha 7 MNR T, the manufacturer has made an effort to include efficient noise reduction. Wind noise can sometimes become a problem outdoors. Therefore, a moderate wind noise management system is integrated here.
Quickly occurring, rattling sounds are noticeably and sufficiently dampened, which we perceive as pleasant. Spatial hearing is reliably supported by multifunctional microphones and is definitely practical. A brilliant listening experience is based, among other things, on the number of frequency bands. The more bands there are, and the narrower the individual frequency channels, the better the hearing aid can be tailored to individual preferences. Here, we get as many as 20 bands. This allows for not only a great sound impression but also very careful speech and background noise suppression.
Speech in noisy environments is always a challenge. Bernafon addresses this with the use of artificial intelligence. The result is brilliant and clear speech transmission while ambient sounds continue to come through realistically loud to the ear.

“Can I make adjustments to my hearing aid myself?” “Is there perhaps an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when selecting a hearing aid, which is why we are looking at the operation and connection options. The simplest operation method is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it too. It can be programmed according to your preferences. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for step-by-step adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional daily life or your hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you prefer to keep everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A remote control is available for the Alpha 7 MNR T. It’s quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up/down option as well as different hearing programs.
We are always excited when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. But that is not currently available in the Alpha 7 MNR T. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With that, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this feature is not yet available in the Alpha 7 MNR T.
Adjusting the hearing aids via the app is very convenient. There is also a free app for the Alpha 7 MNR T. In our opinion, the range of functions is average but usually sufficient. It's best to try it out beforehand in demo mode. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headphone, receiving phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. The prerequisite is a suitable smartphone that includes the 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not just in one ear but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal needs.

Because only when such a device works easily and straightforwardly can you become accustomed to it. A well-functioning situational recognition already creates a lot of relaxation in everyday hearing. You don't have to constantly fiddle with the device and can easily enjoy the automated adjustment. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.

The hearing aid has been classified into IP protection class 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water cannot easily harm the hearing aid either. Thus, it is well-equipped for outdoor activities where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not necessarily go bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and ultimately cause damage.

At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for the extra features: Bernafon has integrated a noise generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A clever tool is the integrated remote service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce commodity. Therefore, such a remote service is absolutely appropriate. Anyone needing a new programming for their hearing aids can easily contact the audiologist via the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a customized setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is uploaded to the hearing aid and can be tested immediately. That definitely deserves extra points in our test.
Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Bernafon model lacks the necessary sensors for this service. We were particularly impressed with the additional features packed into the Alpha 7 MNR T. Various assistants support your daily life beyond hearing and can be configured in the app. Such hearing aids are hard to give up. By the way: These lifestyle features are often still being developed, so they may change depending on updates.
