Bernafon brings to market its Alpha 9 MNB T, a previously widespread top-class hearing aid. It is a discreet hearing aid for nearly every hearing need and is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
At least as important as language comprehension is hearing comfort. After all, our surroundings should sound as realistic and pleasant as possible. So let’s take a look at the noise management: In this model, which Bernafon offers here, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, which is designed to alleviate strenuous background noises. In the Alpha 9 MNB T, the disruptive noises can be adjusted in several levels, allowing one to decide how much attenuation is actually comfortable. Those who enjoy spending time outdoors will appreciate the wind noise suppression. While it doesn't reduce noise as much, it is definitely useful.
Cracking, metallic sounds stand no chance in this hearing aid; they are significantly softened by a multi-stage tool. The spatial hearing in this model is almost natural. A sophisticated directional microphone technology allows for good directional hearing and creates a real 3D effect. The number of frequency channels is very important for good speech-noise discrimination. With 24, this hearing aid is among the best and offers excellent adjustment options.

The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it too. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a step-by-step adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional everyday life or your hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who wants to leave everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid louder or quieter or to switch to another hearing program. Nobody notices it; there’s no need to reach for the ear.
Voice commands are a fairly new method of controlling hearing aids. However, in this model, we don't have this option yet. That's not a big deal - the main thing is that one can hear well. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger, without having to press a button. This feature, however, has not been implemented here yet.
The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even though the app isn’t one of our favorites, it is a useful addition to the Alpha 9 MNB T. You don’t need headphones anymore because it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds from the smartphone directly into the ears - if the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

The automatic situation mode of the Alpha 9 MNB T includes nearly everything one might experience in daily life. It delivers the perfect settings at all times without me having to actively do anything. Especially during varied phases, this is extremely convenient and makes me almost forget that I have the hearing aid on my ear. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new auditory impressions.
The Alpha 9 MNB T is not rechargeable. It operates with hearing aid batteries size 13. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: There is no need for daily charging of batteries; the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on a single battery.
The data sheet certifies the Bernafon device with an IP protection class rating of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the casing unless it is submerged deeper than 1.5 m. However, be cautious. For example, shampoo alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, though, you can behave completely carefree.

Finally, let's take a brief look at whether there are any extras: Are you one of those suffering from tinnitus? Then you might consider the optional tinnitus program available in the Alpha 9 MNB T. Soft, gentle sounds are tuned to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction technique, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and no longer bothers you. This is a simple yet effective tool, and it earns extra points from us.
The remote programming feature is something we find very useful. It is particularly helpful when you only want to make a minor adjustment to the hearing aid settings but don't want to make a special trip to the audiologist. Instead, you can make contact via the app, and the hearing professional will send a customized data package back the same way.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately don't have in the Alpha 9 MNB T. Digital algorithms and appropriate apps are increasingly allowing for the integration of lifestyle features that support your daily life.
