Hier haben wir es mit einem nicht mehr ganz aktuellen Modell zu tun. Es gibt bereits neuere Varianten dieses Herstellers und natürlich auch von anderen Herstellern. Die Gesamtnote wurde mit einem Abschlag versehen.
Bernafon launches its Viron 3 HDO, a traditional hearing aid from the budget segment. It is a discreet hearing aid for mild, moderate, and also severe hearing losses, designed to be worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
A good speech understanding is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is the listening comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right, will hearing be perceived as pleasant. That's why we take a look at the comfort features: In the Viron 3 HDO, we only find the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Normal background noises such as traffic noise, the sound of a vacuum cleaner, or that from a fan should be attenuated by classic noise suppression. In this Bernafon hearing aid, we had hoped for a bit more control depth, but – well.
A pulsed sound filter is also said to be implemented. However, it only dampens short, clattering sounds very little, so it’s not really helpful. The Bernafon device can also detect wind noise, but a very slight reduction in noise follows. This is sufficient for normal daily routes, but true outdoor enthusiasts will not be satisfied with this. We miss natural spatial hearing in this device, which does create some difficulties in everyday life. We can no longer reliably discern directions. Moreover, those with limited vision should consider opting for a different hearing aid. The 10 frequency channels are okay. However, it may be that the programming does not quite match the individual hearing needs and one might have to make some audio compromises.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this Bernafon model.

Operation & connectivity
Almost everyone of us owns a smartphone, so the question arises whether it can also be connected to the new hearing aid. Let's take a look at the connectivity and usability of the Viron 3 HDO. There is usually a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Viron 3 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. The small remote control, which is optionally available, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid volume or switch to another hearing program. No one notices anything, and there is no need to touch the ear.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Bernafon is not yet there with this device. Don’t worry, this feature would be nice, but it's not a must-have. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap in this Bernafon model because certain sensors would have been needed in the casing for that.
Manual operation includes an app. This allows discreet access to the hearing aid. In addition to volume control, you can also adjust hearing programs and a few other functions. We really enjoyed direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone can be transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into a perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable.

How do you manage with the hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will assess. Because only when such a device operates easily and uncomplicated can one become fond of it. The situational recognition did not particularly impress us. Quiet and loud environments are identified, and the Viron 3 HDO adjusts accordingly. But as soon as the acoustic conditions become more demanding, with different noise sources appearing simultaneously, then you may need to make some manual adjustments on the hearing aid. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, it is an enormous relief. The volume does not need to be immediately turned up to maximum. You can start at a lower level, and very gradually and almost unnoticed, the amplification approaches the target.
The Viron 3 HDO is not rechargeable. It operates with size 13 hearing aid batteries. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily charging of batteries is eliminated, and the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on one battery.
We had a carefree everyday experience in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - all no problem. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bath water or saltwater.

Extras
Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: Bernafon has integrated a sound generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
Bernafon keeps up with the times and offers a future-oriented feature with the remote adjustment service. Busy individuals with little time can get in touch with their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a long journey to the specialty store also benefit from this special service.
Many hearing aids still come with a few health functions today. However, since the Viron 3 HDO does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any special features here. Digital algorithms and suitable apps increasingly allow for the integration of lifestyle functions that support your daily life.
