Especially outdoors, one should often look around to locate individual sound sources. However, focusing on a specific speaker works quite well thanks to the integrated directional microphones. With 12 frequency bands, one can achieve a pretty good sound. A passionate musician might not be entirely satisfied, but this number is more than sufficient for normal hearing and sound needs.
Interestingly, artificial intelligence also plays a role in signal processing here. Sound is therefore analyzed not only based on typical frequency patterns. Especially intense, noisy situations are perceived as more realistic and pleasant.

Most functions are automatically activated by this Hansaton model. However, it can be very useful to expand the functionality a bit. In our test, we found out what options we have here. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the AQ Beat FS 1 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is the remote control, which fits in any pocket. If the person you are talking to is speaking too quietly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but the one from Hansaton unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical for those whose fingers are not as nimble or for those who simply like smart gadgets. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control. This means you can just tap your ear briefly, and then the device switches over. However, we do not have that here at Hansaton; it would have required specific sensors.
It is very convenient to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app for the AQ Beat FS 1 R. We believe the functionality is moderate but mostly sufficient. It’s best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone are transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This makes the hearing aid the perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable.

We continue with the test with a brief assessment of how easy everyday use will be. Is it complicated? Do I have to pay special attention? Or do I not need to consider anything further? We would have wished for a program automation in the AQ Beat FS 1 R that adapts itself to the environment. However, this is not the case, so unfortunately, points are deducted here. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly facilitates the adjustment to the new sound.
In our opinion, a very useful development in recent years is the integrated battery. We are used to recharging electronic devices in our daily lives. The AQ Beat FS 1 R is also rechargeable, allowing us to do without the annoying battery changes.
The hearing aid has been classified into protection class IP 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily damage the hearing aid. With this, it is well equipped for outdoor activities, where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not necessarily go swimming or bathing with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can change the composition and ultimately cause damage.
