Once again, we focus on a hearing aid from the company Oticon. This time, it is a traditional behind-the-ear hearing aid called Jet PX 2 miniBTE R. It is a discreet, small hearing aid, and it comes at a moderate price. It can be used for nearly any hearing need. Let's take a look at what the interior has to offer:
Hearing comfort
In our test, we usually start with the analysis of comfort features. A comfortable sound is characterized by a mix of speech and background noise that is realistic and as pleasant as possible. Various electronic tools take care of all the noises. In the Jet PX 2 miniBTE R, we find only the absolutely necessary regarding hearing comfort. One of the noise tools is noise suppression, which is supposed to dampen sounds like traffic noise, refrigerator hum, or PC fan noise. Here, it only works very limitedly. When looking at the price, that could certainly fit.
Even in cheaper hearing aids, we often find attenuation for impulsive, clattering noises today. But unfortunately, this clever tool is not included here, which is a pity. The Jet PX 2 miniBTE R does have wind reduction, but it doesn't really help outdoors. We miss natural spatial hearing with this device, which causes quite a few difficulties in everyday life. We can no longer reliably discern directions. Those with limited vision should opt for a different hearing aid. With 12 frequency bands, one can set a pretty good sound. An avid musician may not be completely satisfied with it, but this number is perfectly sufficient for normal hearing and sound needs.
Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that process data very successfully using artificial intelligence, but this is not the case with this device yet.

Would you like to be able to adjust something on your hearing aids yourself? We believe it can be quite useful to have some control options. Let's take a look at how it works with the Jet PX 2 miniBTE R. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This makes a lot of sense, as it is the easiest and fastest way to make a change. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If someone prefers not to adjust anything directly at the ear, the button can, of course, be deactivated. Those who do not like to touch their ear to increase the volume will be pleased with the optional remote control. This allows for comfortable and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or softer using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Oticon has not implemented this feature in this device yet. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it is not essential. Another option to control the hearing aids is a tap control. This involves simply tapping the ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. However, this possibility is not available in this Oticon device.
Manual operation includes an app. This allows for discreet access to the hearing aid. In addition to volume control, you can also adjust hearing programs and a few other functions. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from a smartphone can be transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into the perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and listening to videos is incredibly comfortable.

Unfortunately, the Jet PX 2 miniBTE R cannot provide automatic situation recognition; we have to make manual adjustments to hear well in different acoustic situations. Some people struggle with acclimatization, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a acclimatization manager that gradually introduces us to the required target amplification. The period can last a few weeks or even several months, and it is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that you hardly notice that there has been an increase in volume.
Easy handling in everyday life definitely also includes the power supply. The Jet PX 2 miniBTE R has a built-in rechargeable battery and can be recharged repeatedly. Since a single charge lasts all day, we don't have to worry about the battery dying in the middle of a conversation.
The hearing aid is rated to IP class 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily harm the hearing aid. Thus, it is well equipped for outdoor activities where it can get wet and dirty. However, you should still avoid bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and ultimately cause damage.

We all like goodies, so let's take a look at the extras that might be hidden in the hearing aid. We really liked the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently plagued by a buzzing or ringing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Jet PX 2 miniBTE R is essentially nothing more than a sound generator. It aims to produce broad-band noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all hearing areas. The tinnitus is drowned out and is no longer perceived as bothersome.
Oticon keeps up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the Remote Fitting Service. Busy individuals with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Even hearing aid users who have a longer commute to the specialist store benefit from this special service.
Do you sometimes use your smartphone to track your daily steps? It is now not only easier but also more accurate. The Jet PX 2 miniBTE R from Oticon has integrated sensors that make tracking very precise. Other health data can also be recorded through it - in our opinion, this is a real added value. This Oticon hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need those for good hearing. It would just have made the product a bit cooler.
