The Oticon Jet PX 2 miniBTE T in review
What exactly can the Jet PX 2 miniBTE T from the manufacturer Oticon do? First of all, it is a conventional hearing aid that sits behind the ear. It covers almost every hearing need. This model is a discreet hearing aid from the low-budget range. What can it accomplish in everyday hearing? What comfort features does it come with? We took a closer look at it.
Hearing comfort
What is most annoying for hearing aid users? Exactly, background noise. That's why we first look at which comfort features the test device includes. In the Jet PX 2 miniBTE T, we find only the absolutely necessary regarding hearing comfort. A normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is supposed to dampen constant sounds like street noise or the hum of an air conditioning unit. In our test device from Oticon, it only works very limited. When taking a look at the price, this could be suitable.
Unfortunately, we didn't find a noise filter that reacts to short, loud sounds. The device from Oticon can also recognize wind noises, but it only results in a very minimal noise reduction. This is sufficient for normal daily routes, but true outdoor enthusiasts will not be satisfied with that. The Jet PX 2 miniBTE T has 12 adjustable frequency bands, which places it in the mid-range. A good acoustician can certainly extract a decent sound from it. We are currently far from a 3D surround sound experience. Only the switchable forward focus offers a bit of hearing support in company.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet in use here.

Operation & connectivity
The handling options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as anyone would like. The basic functions are, of course, fully automatic. We wanted to know how users can further access the Jet PX 2 miniBTE T. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Jet PX 2 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is the remote control, which fits in any pocket. If the person you’re talking to is speaking too softly, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Oticon unfortunately cannot yet. This would be practical if fingers are not as agile anymore or if you simply like smart gadgets. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap of the finger in this Oticon model, as it would require specific sensors in the casing.
An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we found one for the Jet PX 2 miniBTE T as well. In addition to basic functions such as volume and programs, we also find a few more buttons for personalization. A streaming option would not be bad for our digital daily life. The device in question meets our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.

Simplicity & security
Now let's briefly discuss everyday usability. Is the Jet PX 2 miniBTE T user-friendly and easy to handle? Does it have water protection? Here are our findings: The first points in the chapter on simplicity are missed by the Jet PX 2 miniBTE T, as it does not have automatic adjustment for different hearing situations. We have to manually adjust it until we can cope with each hearing situation. The device supports the adjustment to the new hearing experience with a fully automated acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I just have to make sure to wear my hearing aids regularly.
The Jet PX 2 miniBTE T gets its energy from small disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days. While this isn't rocket science, it should be considered, especially for those with motor skill issues. A rechargeable battery would be much easier to handle.
We had a carefree everyday experience in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This means that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to soapy bath water or seawater.

Extras
We complete the test by checking if there are a few extras for you: Do you suffer from tinnitus? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the Jet PX 2 miniBTE T. Quiet, gentle sounds are tuned to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. This is nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and is no longer bothersome. This is a simple yet effective tool and earns extra points from us.
Oticon keeps up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the remote fitting service. Busy individuals with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer commute to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
Sensors in the hearing aid enable functions that provide real added value. This model from Oticon contains such sensors and counts your steps throughout the day, for example. The data can then be viewed in the app. It is likely that subsequent updates will bring additional tracking features. Other hearing aids already have a few advanced options such as a fall alarm or reminder functions. We do not find these here, and that's not too dramatic, as the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
