This test report is about the Jet PX 2 miniRITE T. It was developed by Oticon and covers mild to profound hearing losses. This variant is worn behind the ear. Jet PX 2 miniRITE T is a relatively small hearing aid at a lower price point. We achieve clean sound transmission through the speaker arrangement, inconspicuously placed in the ear towards the eardrum.
Hearing comfort
In our test, we usually start with the analysis of comfort features. A comfortable sound is characterized by a mix of speech and background noises that is realistic and as pleasant as possible at the same time. Various electronic tools take care of all the sounds. With the Jet PX 2 miniRITE T, we find only the absolute essentials regarding auditory comfort. One of the noise tools is noise suppression, which is supposed to dampen sounds like traffic noise, refrigerator hum, or PC fan noise. While it does have a very basic noise suppression feature, it only provides minimal attenuation.
An impulse sound suppressor is unfortunately not included in the Jet PX 2 miniRITE T. The device from Oticon can also detect wind noise, but the resulting noise reduction is minimal. This is sufficient for normal daily commutes, but genuine outdoor enthusiasts will not be satisfied with it. The microphones in the Jet PX 2 miniRITE T can be directed forward in the line of sight. However, this is the only feature that slightly supports spatial hearing. With 12 frequency bands, you can set a fairly good sound. A passionate musician may not be entirely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is perfectly adequate.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Oticon.

Operation & connectivity
Everyone has their own hearing needs. It is beneficial if one can customize their hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In the test, we discovered the following access options: The simplest operation method is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has that as well. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a stepwise adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional daily routine or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you want to keep everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. The small remote control, which is optionally available, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid volume up or down or switch to another hearing program. No one notices, and there's no need to reach for the ear.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Oticon is not yet at that point with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice but is not essential. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear lightly, and the device switches. However, we do not have that at Oticon, as it would have required very specific sensors.
An app on the smartphone is intended to make operation easier, and we have found one for the Jet PX 2 miniRITE T. Alongside the basic functions like volume and programs, we also find a few additional buttons for personalization. The Jet PX 2 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We think this is great and are happy to award points.

Very important to us regarding simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the adjustment period. After a few weeks or months, we have then reached the calculated amplification level.
We regret that the Jet PX 2 miniRITE T does not have a rechargeable battery but operates with hearing aid batteries of size 312. This is not a big issue, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand, this hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it runs for a longer time on a single battery.
The hearing aid has been classified in protection class IP68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against the ingress of dust. Water also cannot easily harm the hearing aid. Thus, it is well-equipped for outdoor activities where it may get wet and dirty. However, please do not go bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and may ultimately cause damage.

Extras
We all love goodies, so let's take a final look at the extras that may be hidden in the hearing aid. Oticon has integrated a sound generator that plays a few soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A real added value is the remote maintenance service. For a change in the hearing aid settings, you no longer need to go to the specialist shop; instead, you can directly contact the audiologist via the app. Through a cloud service, you can then load the new data package into the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.
Sensors in the hearing aid enable functions that provide real added value. This model from Oticon contains such sensors and counts your steps throughout the day, for example. The data can then be viewed in the app. It is likely that additional tracking functions will be added through subsequent updates. The hearing aid does not include additional features such as special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or language translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
