This time we are focusing on a hearing aid from the company Oticon. This time it is an earlier widely distributed behind-the-ear hearing aid named Real 2 mini BTE T. It is a discreet hearing aid, and it comes at a quite high price. It can be used for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing needs. Let’s take a look at what the inner workings have to offer:
Hearing comfort
What is most annoying for hearing aid users? Exactly, ambient noise. That’s why we will first take a look at the comfort features included in the test device. The Real 2 mini BTE T provides customers with comprehensive noise management. Normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is designed to dampen constant noises like street noise or the hum of the air conditioning. In our test device from Oticon, you can be quite satisfied with the depth of the noise suppression. It can be adjusted step by step and ensures that the noises do not dominate.
The suppression of short, loud sound events convinced us here; it is quite powerful. The hearing comfort package also includes wind noise suppression. It works very reliably, and we wouldn't want to do without it anymore. A brilliant listening experience is not least based on the number of frequency bands. The more bands there are, and the narrower the individual frequency channels are, the better the hearing aid can be adjusted to individual preferences. Here we have 20 bands right away. This not only allows for a great sound impression, but also the speech and noise suppression can work very carefully. Spatial hearing is reliably supported by multifunctional microphones and is definitely practical.
Understanding speech in a noisy environment is always a challenge. Oticon tackles this issue with the use of artificial intelligence. The result is brilliant and clear speech transmission while the ambient noises continue to reach the ear at realistic volumes.

Operation & connectivity
The majority of functions are activated automatically by this Oticon model. However, it can be very useful to have the ability to expand the range of functions a bit more. In our test, we found out what options we have here. The simplest way to operate it is always with a button directly on the hearing aid. This model has one as well. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for step-by-step adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional everyday life or your hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you prefer to keep everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. If desired, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This makes it easy to adjust the volume. The handling is not only child’s play, but also no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.
In our test, we did not find any possibility for voice control. This function is not necessarily required, but we would have been pleased nonetheless. Some hearing aids can also be operated with a simple tap of the finger, without the need to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
Our favorite tool for hearing aids is the app, and we really like this one. In addition to the obligatory volume controls, there are also options for sound manipulation. This significantly expands the potential of the Real 2 mini BTE T and provides relief when hearing becomes challenging. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. With this, the hearing aid becomes a TrueWireless headset, receiving calls and other sounds directly in the ear. The prerequisite is a suitable smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not only in one ear but in both. Moreover, the sound can be tailored to personal needs.

Now let's take a look at how the usage is in everyday life. Is the handling easy? Do I get a safe device? Listening in everyday life is made easier by the good program automation in the Real 2 mini BTE T. It is only rarely necessary to use the manual hearing programs because the automation already covers many situations. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gently raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly facilitates getting used to the new sound.
The Real 2 mini BTE T is not rechargeable. It continues to get its energy from disposable batteries size 312, which need to be changed every few days.
The Real 2 is almost dust and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Lastly, we are interested in whether there are a few additional goodies: The tinnitus program is definitely worth mentioning. Those who are plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer bothersome.
The ability for remote adjustment is something we really like. This is very helpful whenever you just want to make a small change to the hearing aid settings but don't want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you can make contact via the app, and the hearing professional sends back a customized data package the same way.
Many hearing aids still come with a few health functions today. Since the Real 2 mini BTE T doesn't have any special sensors for this, we can't present any particular features here. We were really impressed with the additional functions that are integrated into the Real 2 mini BTE T. Various assistants support your daily life beyond hearing and can be configured in the app. Such hearing aids are hard to give up. By the way: These lifestyle functions are often still being developed, so they may change depending on updates.
