Our testers have taken another hearing aid from the Advanced Class under scrutiny. We present: The Oticon Real 3 mini BTE R. Here we have a conventional hearing aid worn behind the ear. It can be used by anyone who wants to compensate for mild to profound hearing losses. Real 3 mini BTE R is a small hearing aid. Is it worth buying this model? We will reveal the details.
Hearing comfort
In the Hearing Comfort section, we look at how a hearing aid handles all the background noise. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to a user liking their hearing aids and wearing them regularly. With this Oticon device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. The regular noise suppression aims to reduce uniform, background noises. In the Real 3 mini BTE R, the noise suppression is solid. There are hearing aids that have a significantly more effective reduction, but this one should be sufficient for normal requirements.
A pulse sound suppressor for short, popping noises is sensibly integrated here and is entirely adequate for everyday use. The Hearing Comfort package also includes wind noise suppression. This works very reliably, and we would not want to do without it anymore. The adjustable microphones help to identify specific directions and can also assist with noise cancellation, but the spatial sound was not very natural. 18 adjustable equalizer bands provide ample room to generate a reliable, tailored listening experience.
Artificial intelligence is also employed in the signal processing of the Real 3 mini BTE R. This allows for a much more realistic analysis of the hearing environment, and especially the clarity in noisy surroundings is significantly better.

For those who want to adjust the volume quickly and easily, there is a button on the device. Additionally, other programs for special listening situations can be selected through this button. A remote control is available for the Real 3 mini BTE R. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume control option as well as various hearing programs.
The modern form of operation via voice command is not yet available in the Real 3 mini BTE R. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. To do this, you simply tap your ear with your fingers, which then triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Oticon device.
The best way to adjust the Real 3 mini BTE R is with the associated app. The first apps in the past had just one screen, but this one offers far more than just the usual volume control function. There are clearly points here from us. The Real 3 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We find this good and are happy to award points.

The Real 3 mini BTE R automatically accesses the most important hearing settings, making daily use easier. However, those who frequently encounter changing acoustic environments should have the manual additional programs configured. The device supports getting used to the new hearing experience with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I don’t have to do anything more than wear my hearing aids regularly.
The Real 3 mini BTE R is rechargeable and no longer requires any hearing aid batteries. This is environmentally friendly, as there are no old batteries to dispose of. At the same time, it is also extremely convenient, as no spare batteries need to be carried. The hearing aids simply go into the charging station at night and are ready for use the next morning.
We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This prevents dust from entering, and water only becomes a threat after prolonged submersion. There is also protection against touch.

Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer bothersome at all.
Oticon keeps up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the remote adjustment service. Busy individuals with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer journey to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors, which can be used to track some personal health data. However, the Real 3 mini BTE R does not offer this. This Oticon device still has a few little highlights. Depending on what your smartphone supports, you can set reminders for appointments, access Siri, or use other assistance systems. This definitely earns an extra point.
