Hearing comfort
Hearing aids should not only bring speech to the ear but also sound pleasant. So let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively everyday life? Here with this test device, a solid comfort programming by the acoustician is possible. As with any hearing aid, it also includes typical background noise suppression. It is designed to reduce consistent, noisy environmental sounds to the point where they no longer dominate. With the HearLink 9010 BTE PP, we are satisfied with the effectiveness of the noise suppression. It can not only be turned on or off but also adjusted in stages.
A fairly solid wind management is available to us in the HearLink 9010 BTE PP and should be sufficient for everyday life. We are pleased to find good and efficient impulse sound damping here. This is definitely useful in everyday situations, as it noticeably mitigates the sound of doors slamming, dishes clattering, or similarly noisy sounds. A high number of frequency bands aids in the separation of speech and noise. The HearLink 9010 BTE PP, with its 16 bands, certainly ranks in the upper range. Spatial hearing works very reliably. Operation & connectivity
The majority of hearing aids automatically adapt to their environment. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make changes yourself. After all, the hearing aid does not know how you are feeling at the moment. We looked into the control options offered by the HearLink 9010 BTE PP: A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can increase or decrease the volume in several levels. Additional programs for specific hearing situations can also be activated with it. If you prefer to do without the button, you can simply have it deactivated. Those who do not like to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
For some time now, there has been a trend of adjusting hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Philips has not yet reached this stage with this device. Don’t worry, this feature would be nice but is not essential. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap on this Philips model, as it would have required certain sensors in the housing.
Philips offers a suitable app for easier operation. However, it is not particularly well-equipped and barely goes beyond the basic functions like volume control and hearing programs. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from a smartphone can be transferred to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into a perfect hands-free device or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable.

Philips HearLink 9010 BTE PP: The AudioClip can serve as a kind of wireless lasso for distant speakers. It has integrated microphones and a radio transmitter. With the silver clip, a speaker can attach the device near their collar, and then their voice is transmitted via radio to the hearing aids. This is a great addition for lectures, city tours, or even when cycling together. Whenever the hearing aid user has a difficult distance to the conversation partner, the AudioClip shows its strength.

The HearLink 9010 BTE PP includes a comprehensive set of stored listening situations. When a typical pattern is recognized, the hearing aid automatically activates the right setting. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is a tremendous relief. The volume does not need to be turned all the way up immediately. One can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost unnoticed, the amplification approaches the target.
The HearLink 9010 BTE PP is not equipped with a battery, so it is not rechargeable. It is powered by a hearing aid battery size 13, which needs to be replaced every few days.
We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water becomes dangerous only after prolonged immersion. Protection against contact is also included.

A real added value is the remote maintenance service. For changes to the hearing aid settings, you no longer have to go to the specialist store; instead, you can directly contact the acoustician through the app. Via a cloud service, you can then upload the new data package to the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, that requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the HearLink 9010 BTE PP. With devices like this from Philips, our test reports are getting longer, as there are now also intelligent additional functions. Various assistants make your life easier and can be personalized in the app. While this is not strictly necessary, it is a lot of fun. For that, we give a good rating.
