What exactly can the Naida Lumity 30 UP from the manufacturer Phonak do? First of all, it is a traditional hearing aid that sits behind the ear. It covers moderate to severe hearing loss. This model is a nice, but quite visible hearing aid at a reasonable price from the upper mid-range. What can it achieve in everyday hearing? What comfort features does it come with? We took a closer look at it.

Hearing comfort

First, we assess the hearing comfort features. What types of noises does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? Here, with this test device, a solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional is possible. As in all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise reduction here. It is supposed to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds to the extent that they no longer stand out. With the Naida Lumity 30 UP, this works quite well. In a normal hearing environment, one can certainly manage with it.

Wind can significantly restrict hearing comfort outdoors when it blows over the microphones. But the Naida Lumity 30 UP has efficient wind noise suppression built in. It works really well and will delight people who enjoy being outside. It can be adjusted in several levels to meet personal needs. Unfortunately, there is no impulse sound suppressor included in the Naida Lumity 30 UP. While the Naida Lumity 30 UP doesn't have many adjustable equalizer bands, the 12 should be sufficient for a good listening experience. The hearing aid automatically decides whether the microphones should be directed towards a speaker or not. One gets a decent spatial impression, but accurately distinguishing directions or estimating distances through hearing is not so easy.

By the way, you might perceive the sound of this Phonak device as clearer and more natural, especially in noisy environments. This is probably due to the implemented artificial intelligence. The hearing aid has already been fed with millions of real sounds, which leads to a significantly improved distinction between speech and noise.

Occasionally, one finds themselves in situations where it would be beneficial if the hearing aid were adjusted differently. After all, we live in hectic times, where the acoustic environment frequently changes as well. Most hearing aids have specific options for this purpose, allowing for personal adjustment. Here's how it works with the Naida Lumity 30 UP: A very quick way to adjust the volume is through the small button on the device. It's easy to feel, and you can increase or decrease the volume in several steps. Additional programs for specific listening situations can also be activated this way. If someone prefers to do without the button, they can simply have it deactivated. A remote control for the hearing aid is available upon request. This allows for effortless volume control. The handling is not only child’s play, but also no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.

We are always delighted when a hearing aid surprises us with an amazing additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. However, this is currently not available in the Naida Lumity 30 UP. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have tap controls. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch modes. However, we don’t have this feature at Phonak, as it would have required specific sensors.

We always have our smartphone with us, and with the Naida Lumity 30 UP, this is worthwhile since it can be personalized via an app. The app is also really fun to use and has a range of features that one wouldn’t expect in a hearing aid app. If you enjoy gaming, this is the right fit for you. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headset, receiving phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. A compatible smartphone that includes the 2.4 GHz technology is required. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls in both ears, not just one. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal preferences.

Simplicity & security

No matter how great the hearing aid sounds: nothing is more unpleasant than a product that constantly presents hurdles in our daily lives. That’s why simplicity and safety are very important topics in our hearing aid tests: We expected a bit more support in daily hearing with the automatic situation recognition. The situations "quiet" and "noise" are recognized, but usually, the soundscape is a bit more complex. Some people struggle with adaptation, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is an acclimatization manager that gradually guides us to the required target amplification. The adaptation period can last a few weeks or several months; it can be individually adjusted. The steps are so small that one hardly notices that there has been an increase in volume.

Unfortunately, Naida Lumity 30 UP does not come with a rechargeable battery, so regular size 675 batteries are needed for operation.

We take a look at the robustness of the housing and find the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged immersion. Protection against contact is also included.

If you have no opportunity to visit the hearing acoustician, you can instead contact them via the app, briefly describe your hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, you upload it to your hearing aids.

Special sensors in the Phonak Naida Lumity 30 UP provide completely new insights into your health status. For example, you can check how many steps you have taken at the end of the day.
