Here we take a look at a hearing aid from the low-budget range that is worn behind the ear. It is called Key 3 62-DRW and comes from the manufacturer ReSound. It can be used by anyone with nearly any hearing needs who desires a somewhat visible hearing aid. Due to the cleverly chosen positioning of the speaker in the ear canal, it has very good sound qualities.
Hearing comfort
The hearing comfort determines whether someone likes to wear their hearing aids or not. That's why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. With this model, which ReSound presents to us, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Of course, there is noise suppression integrated to mitigate strenuous background noises. In the Key 3 62-DRW, there is only a minimal basic reduction. A certain tolerance for noise should be expected from the hearing aid user here. The Key 3 62-DRW does offer wind reduction, but it doesn't really make a difference outdoors.
Even in cheaper hearing aids, we often find attenuation for impulsive, clattering noises today. But unfortunately, this clever tool is not included here, which is a real shame. We have to forego spatial hearing with the Key 3 62-DRW, but at least the microphones can be set to a focus mode. Let's take a brief look at the equalizer: With 8 bands, it is not particularly flexible. With a few more channels, we would certainly have achieved a nicer, more natural sound experience. But at least we can already reasonably adjust the sound to our hearing preferences.
Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data with the help of artificial intelligence, but that is not the case with this device yet.

ReSound Key 3 62-DRW:
Operation & connectivity
Digital hearing aids have long evolved beyond just the normal amplification function. Apps and other control options significantly expand their capabilities, which is why we are looking at this important topic with the Key 3 62-DRW from ReSound. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can increase or decrease the volume in several steps. Additional programs for special listening situations can also be activated with it. If someone prefers not to use the button, they can have it deactivated. A discreet option to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you are talking to is speaking too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from ReSound unfortunately cannot yet. This would be practical when fingers are not as agile anymore or when someone simply likes smart gadgets. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a short tap, without needing to press an extra button. However, this feature is not yet implemented here.
The best way to adjust the Key 3 62-DRW is with the corresponding app. The first apps in the past had just one screen, but this one offers far more than just the usual volume control. We clearly have points for this. A streaming option would be great for our digital everyday life. The present device fulfills our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to send calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 1,8

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its everyday usability. This involves, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. With the Key 3 62-DRW, we do not necessarily experience easy, comfortable hearing. In a quieter daily routine, one can manage well, but as soon as you have a varied hearing environment, manual adjustments become unavoidable. The adaptation to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I need to do nothing more than wear my hearing aids regularly.
The Key 3 62-DRW is not rechargeable. It operates with hearing aid batteries size 13. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily recharging of batteries is eliminated, as the device can run continuously for several days on a single battery.
We had a carefree daily experience in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and subsequently removed the hearing aids with wet hands - everything was no problem. However, the water resistance really only refers to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bath water or saltwater.

Extras
Lastly, we are interested in whether there are any additional goodies on top: We really liked the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently plagued by ringing or buzzing in the ears. The tinnitus program in the Key 3 62-DRW is basically nothing more than a sound generator. It aims to produce broad-spectrum noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all hearing areas. The tinnitus gets drowned out and is no longer perceived as bothersome.
The remote adjustment feature is something we find very useful. It is especially helpful when you want to change just a small detail in the hearing aid settings but don’t want to drive to the audiologist for a minor adjustment. Instead, you contact them through the app, and the hearing professional sends back a tailored data package in the same way.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track a few personal health data, but the Key 3 62-DRW does not offer this. The functionality of the Key 3 62-DRW is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional functions like fall alerts or Siri connections provide added value, but they are not relevant for achieving good hearing balance.
Rating Extras: 2,5
Conclusion: ReSound Key 3 62-DRW
With a final grade of 3.35, this model holds its own in the mid-range. It has quite a decent comfort feature set onboard, sufficient for typical everyday moments and providing a satisfying listening experience.

FAQ
### How big is the ReSound Key 3 62-DRW? Since a size in millimeters does not explain how large a hearing aid appears, we have divided the size perception into classes. Class "XXS" is practically invisible, class "M" has the largest appearance. The ReSound Key 3 62-DRW is in the size class S. One could therefore describe it as medium-sized. ### What is the price of the ReSound Key 3 62-DRW? The Key 3 62-DRW from the manufacturer ReSound is currently offered by hearing acousticians in Germany in a price range of approximately €700.00 to €1,300.00. To evaluate the price-performance ratio, you should take into account the overall test score of 3.4 (satisfactory). ### How well does one hear with the ReSound Key 3 62-DRW? We give the ReSound Key 3 62-DRW a comfort rating of 5.0 (poor). The ReSound hearing aid receives a 'moderate' rating (only 1 out of 5 stars) for its suppression of wind noise. The noise suppression of the device only achieves 1 out of 5 stars. 8 frequency bands are separately adjustable in this hearing aid for processing sound pitches (top values of current flagship models: 24). ### For whom is the ReSound Key 3 62-DRW suitable? If your hearing deficit is mild, moderate, or severe, the ReSound Key 3 62-DRW could be suitable for you. This so-called "adaptation range" of the hearing aid is determined by the manufacturer and has to do with the amplification of the hearing aid. Whether the device is actually suitable for you can only be sensibly assessed by a hearing acoustician on-site after a thorough hearing test has been conducted.
