The ReSound Key 3 88-DWH in review
Diese Technik ist nicht mehr ganz aktuell. Wir nehmen daher eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote vor.
We're looking at a hearing aid, like the ones known from the past for moderate, more severe, and changing hearing losses: This model is called Key 3 88-DWH and comes from the company ReSound. It is worn behind the ear, and it is a discreet hearing aid. The Key 3 88-DWH is a model from the more affordable category. Let's see if the pricing classification is justified.
Hearing comfort
What is most bothersome for hearing aid users: Exactly, background noise. That's why we'll first look at what comfort features the test device includes. The Key 3 88-DWH offers only the absolute essentials when it comes to hearing comfort. A normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is supposed to dampen constant noises like traffic noise or the sound of the air conditioner. In our test device from ReSound, a basic noise reduction is integrated by the manufacturer, but it cannot be adjusted further.
A pulse sound suppressor is unfortunately not included in the Key 3 88-DWH. We found a basic wind detection, but unfortunately, nothing is adjustable. Let's take a look at the number of equalizer bands: the device offers 8 from ReSound. We're not really happy with that, as the possibilities for sound shaping are quite limited. However, it's sufficient for good speech understanding. We miss natural spatial hearing with this device, which does pose some difficulties in daily life. We can no longer reliably identify directions. Those with limited vision should consider opting for a different hearing aid.
ReSound does not yet utilize artificial intelligence in this version.

ReSound Key 3 88-DWH:
Operation & connectivity
The control options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one wishes. The basic functions operate fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how users can access the Key 3 88-DWH beyond that. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found that on the Key 3 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button, and can also be disabled if desired. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid volume up or down or switch to another hearing program. No one notices, and there's no need to reach for the ear.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from ReSound cannot yet. It would be practical for those whose fingers are not as mobile or for those who simply like smart gadgets. Some hearing aids can also be activated with a quick tap of the finger, without needing to press a button. However, this feature is not yet implemented here.
To improve operability, the manufacturer also provides a smartphone app. The ReSound app for Key 3 88-DWH is impressive: You can not only change the volume but also really influence the sound and various noise parameters. The Key 3 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy stereo phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normal-hearing individuals. We like that and are happy to give points.

Simplicity & security
Another point in our checklist is the handling. Does everything work easily and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe usage in daily life? Automatic situation recognition is only rudimentarily integrated in the Key 3 88-DWH. We often have to resort to the manual options and adjust our hearing aid to the environments ourselves. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help as you enter the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions. More information on acclimatization and other hearing aids with this feature can be found here: Acclimatization to Hearing Aids.
The Key 3 88-DWH is not rechargeable. It still gets its energy from disposable batteries size 13, which need to be replaced every few days.
The data sheet certifies the ReSound device with an IP protection class 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the casing unless it is submerged deeper than 1.5 m. Nevertheless, be careful. Shampoo, for example, changes the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.

ReSound Key 3 88-DWH:
Extras
At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for extra features: ReSound has integrated a sound generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
ReSound is keeping up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the remote fitting service. Working individuals with little time can get in touch with their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer commute to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
There are no sensors in this Key 3 variant, so the popular health tracking feature cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this function onboard. It would have been nice to have some lifestyle features, but those are not available in the Key 3 88-DWH. Other hearing aids can score points with a language translator or fall alert, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
Rating Extras: 2,5
Conclusion: ReSound Key 3 88-DWH
With a final grade of 3.35, this model holds its ground in the mid-range. It has a quite decent comfort equipment on board, sufficient for typical everyday moments and creates a satisfying listening experience.
