What hearing comfort does the Key 4 62-DRW offer? How is it operated? Is the purchase worth it? You can find answers to these questions in our review of this hearing aid from ReSound. First, the basics: It is worn behind the ear, and by housing the speaker directly in the ear canal, sound can easily travel towards the eardrum. This is important, as it is the only way to produce a really good, broadband sound.
The Key 4 62-DRW is a slightly visible hearing aid from an affordable price range that can cover light, moderate, and also substantial hearing needs. Read more details:
Hearing comfort
What is most bothersome for hearing aid users? Exactly, background noise. That's why we'll first look at what comfort features the test device includes. With the Key 4 62-DRW, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. There is definitely a normal noise suppression feature present. It is supposed to dampen constant noises like street noise or the hum of an air conditioner. In our test device from ReSound, there is only a minimal base reduction. A certain tolerance for noise should be expected from the hearing aid user here.
According to the manufacturer, an impulse sound suppression is integrated, but we could hardly perceive any effect from it. The device from ReSound can also detect wind noise, but only a very slight noise reduction follows. This is sufficient for regular everyday paths, but true outdoor enthusiasts will not be satisfied with this. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but the existing 12 channels are fairly manageable. The hearing aid can autonomously focus on the speaker in front of it, but we do not receive much more support for spatial hearing from the Key 4 62-DRW.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet employed here.
Rating Hearing comfort: 4,5
Operation & connectivity
How can you fully leverage the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We discovered what accessibility options are available with the Key 4 62-DRW. First, we found a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very useful as it is the easiest and quickest way to make changes. The volume can be adjusted through this button, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to adjust anything directly on your ear, you can of course disable the button. Upon request, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows you to easily manage the volume. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.
Voice commands are a fairly new way to operate hearing aids. However, we don't have this option in this model yet. That's not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. Tap Control would have been an interesting feature as well. With this, you could change the function with a simple tap on your ear. But this is not available here in the Key 4 62-DRW.
For better usability, the manufacturer also provides us with an app for smartphones. The ReSound app for Key 4 62-DRW is impressive: you can not only change the volume but also truly influence the sound and various noise parameters. A streaming option would not be bad for our digital daily lives. The present device fulfills our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 1,8

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in daily life. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. We receive relatively little support from the program automation in the Key 4 62-DRW. Without a few individual hearing programs, one might not cope in a lively everyday environment. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is reached. We can relax and gradually adapt to the new hearing impressions.
The Key 4 62-DRW is not rechargeable. It continues to get its energy from disposable size 13 batteries, which need to be changed every few days.
The Key 4 is nearly dust- and waterproof and, with its IP 68 rating, is certainly well protected against external influences.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,8

Extras
Before we reach the end, let's take a look at the extras: Are you one of the tinnitus sufferers? Then you might consider using the optional tinnitus program in Key 4 62-DRW. Soft, gentle sounds are tuned to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction technique, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and is no longer bothersome. This is a simple yet effective tool, and it earns extra points from us.
A very good added benefit is provided by the remote maintenance service. Through the app, you can contact your audiologist and describe your hearing issue. They can adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a fantastic service.
There are no sensors in this Key 4 variant, so popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, daily steps are counted. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this feature on board. The hearing aid also omits additional features such as special assistive systems, a fall alarm, or language translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.

Conclusion: ReSound Key 4 62-DRW
With a final grade of 3.15, this model holds its ground in the mid-range. It has a quite decent comfort feature set on board, sufficient for typical everyday moments and provides a satisfactory listening experience.
