Here we take a look at a behind-the-ear hearing aid from the Business Class. It is called Nexia 5 61-DRW and comes from the manufacturer ReSound. It can be used by anyone with mild, moderate, and even strong hearing needs who desires a discreet hearing aid. By placing the small speaker in the ear canal, it has very good sound properties.
Hearing comfort
In our test, we usually start with an analysis of the comfort features. A comfortable sound is characterized by a mix of speech and background noise that is realistic and as pleasant as possible. Various electronic tools take care of all the noises. With the Nexia 5 61-DRW, solid comfort programming is possible through the audiologist. One of the noise tools is noise suppression, which is intended to dampen sounds like traffic noise, refrigerator hum, or PC fan noise. Here, we would rate the noise reduction as mediocre. It is sufficient if you do not live in a very noisy environment.
After all, the Nexia 5 61-DRW includes a so-called bang filter. But is that always enough? When it comes to wind noise suppression, we are dealing with a relatively simple wind damper. The adjustable microphones help to detect specific directions and can also assist in noise cancellation, but the spatial sound was not very natural. While the Nexia 5 61-DRW doesn't have a lot of adjustable equalizer bands, the 12 should be sufficient for a good listening experience.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet implemented in the Nexia 5 61-DRW.

Operation & connectivity
Most functions of this ReSound model are activated automatically. However, it is sometimes very useful to be able to expand the range of functions a little further. In our testing, we found out what options we have here. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very sensible because it is the easiest and quickest way to make a change. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to make any adjustments directly on your ear, you can, of course, deactivate the button. If desired, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows you to easily adjust the volume. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are currently adjusting your hearing aids.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from ReSound cannot yet. It would be convenient if the fingers aren’t as agile anymore or if you simply like smart gadgets. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your ear with your fingers, which in turn triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this ReSound device.
Hearing aid apps are becoming increasingly popular. With the Nexia 5 61-DRW, we are fortunate: there is a suitable app. This app completely impressed us. Not only are there numerous ways to customize the hearing aids to your own hearing preferences, but the app also offers a wealth of lifestyle features. We particularly enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from a smartphone are transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into the perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable as well.

ReSound geht mit der Zeit und stellt mit dem Remote-Einstellungsservice ein zukunftsorientiertes Feature zur Verfügung. Berufstätige Menschen mit wenig Zeit können online mit ihrem Akustiker Kontakt aufnehmen und ihre Hörgeräte umprogrammieren lassen. Auch Hörgeräteträger, die einen längeren Anfahrtsweg zum Fachgeschäft haben, profitieren von diesem besonderen Service.
Viele Hörgeräte haben heute noch ein paar Gesundheits-Funktionen dabei. Da das Nexia 5 61-DRW aber keine speziellen Sensoren dafür hat, können wir hier keine Besonderheiten vorstellen.
