Right from the start, we address the topic of hearing comfort. By this, we mean all the features that ensure a thoroughly pleasant, rich, and interference-free sound. In the Nexia 9 61-DRW, the manufacturer provides customers with comprehensive noise management.
The classic noise suppression is, of course, present here as well. Its purpose is to detect and slightly attenuate simple sounds from the environment. In this ReSound model, it does this quite effectively, and significantly more so than in most other hearing aids. Impulsive sounds occur frequently in everyday life. One of the best features in the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headset and receives phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. The requirement is a compatible smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that you hear calls in both ears, not just one. Therefore, simplicity and safety are very important topics in our hearing aid tests: the Nexia 9 61-DRW performs exceptionally well in situation recognition. Those who desire a comprehensive and powerful full automation in their hearing aid and want to adjust it as little as possible will be very satisfied here. The adaptive algorithms untangle individual sound events in the environment and present the soundscape clearly and precisely. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually acclimate to the new hearing experiences.
The Nexia 9 61-DRW gets its energy from small disposable batteries that need to be replaced every few days. While it's not rocket science, it should be considered, especially for those with motor issues. A rechargeable battery would be much easier to handle.
We enjoyed a carefree everyday life during our test thanks to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to soapy bath water or seawater.

That’s why we’ll quickly look for the extras that may be hidden here: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the Nexia 9 61-DRW upon request. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly award extra points.
A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. If someone needs a new programming of their hearing aids, they can easily contact the acoustician through the app and describe their hearing wishes. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send an individual setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the Nexia 9 61-DRW doesn't have any special sensors for that, we can’t present any particular features here. The hearing aid does without additional functions like special assistance systems, a fall alert, or speech translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
