The ReSound Savi 2 62-DRW in review
We tested a rather small hearing aid from the low-budget range this time. It is the ReSound Savi 2 62-DRW. It is worn behind the ear and is intended for nearly every hearing need. The discreet yet intelligent placement of the speaker in the ear canal is thanks to its design, which also provides a nice, clear sound.
With Savi, ReSound completes its portfolio in the entry-level segment – solid technology, clear sound, and an attractive price-performance ratio.
Hearing comfort
Hearing aids are supposed to not only bring speech to the ear but also sound pleasant. So let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively everyday life? Here with this test device, we only find the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Like in every hearing aid, there is also typical background noise suppression here. It aims to reduce uniform, rustling ambient noises to the point where they no longer dominate as much. The Savi 2 62-DRW has standard noise suppression integrated by the manufacturer. It is active in the background but cannot be adjusted further.
This hearing aid can detect wind noises, but the reduction is hardly noticeable. A filter for clattering or popping sounds is not present here – unfortunately, that's a drawback. With 10 frequency bands, we are not entirely satisfied with the 62-DRW, but it should suffice for uncomplicated hearing curves. The sound is likely not very natural with this setup. Orientation in space, locating sounds or speakers is rather difficult with this hearing aid. There are no supportive functions for the microphones. We can hardly award points here and recommend considering this issue carefully. After all, spatial hearing also serves to help orient oneself in public spaces and traffic.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this ReSound model does not yet apply it.
Targeted support for speech understanding in noisy environments is not included in this model – such features are only available in the higher technology levels.

Operation & connectivity
Most hearing aids automatically adapt to their surroundings. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make some changes yourself. After all, the hearing aid doesn't know how you are feeling at the moment. We took a look at the control options the Savi 2 62-DRW offers: The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it too. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for incremental volume adjustments. Or do you need different special programs for your professional daily life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who prefers to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. Those who don't like to touch their ear to adjust the volume will be pleased with the optional remote control. This allows you to make changes to the hearing aid comfortably and discreetly.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but ReSound is not yet there with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it's not essential. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch. However, ReSound does not have this feature as it would have required very specific sensors.
In our opinion, an app is better than a remote control, as everyone likely has a smartphone in their pocket. The app for the Savi 2 62-DRW is really good; it has a lot of clever features that make listening in difficult situations much easier. It is quite complex, but you can quickly find your way around. You can practice in demo mode. There are also a few surprising additional tools - have fun discovering! One of the best features in the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headphone and allows you to receive phone calls and other sounds directly in your ear. The prerequisite is a compatible smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not just in one ear, but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal preferences.
At ReSound, advanced connectivity is standard – across all technology levels. All models support LE Audio with Auracast as well as direct streaming to compatible devices.

Simplicity & security
We continue our test and try out how easy this hearing aid is to handle. After all, it should simplify the everyday life of hearing aid users and not complicate it further. As far as relaxed listening is concerned, the Savi 2 62-DRW is only easy to use when one is mostly in quiet listening environments. If it does get louder or more challenging, then we receive no support from adaptive situational automatics. If at all, one can only assist with manual control options. A very important aspect of simplicity for us is the support during acclimatization. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be hard to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device has an acclimatization manager that helps us through the adjustment phase with very small volume adjustments. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
The Savi 2 62-DRW is not rechargeable; it is operated with hearing aid batteries. Unlike a rechargeable battery, it does not need to be charged daily, but the size 13 battery is changed after a few days.
With IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot enter, it can withstand prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.
Hearing aids with batteries offer easy handling and are independent of chargers. The disadvantage: The batteries need to be changed regularly and must always be kept in stock.

Extras
Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the Savi 2 62-DRW upon request. This allows for stimulating, pleasant sounds to be generated that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.
One significant added benefit comes from the remote servicing offer. Through the app, you can contact your hearing care professional and describe your hearing problem. They can adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track some personal health data, for example. However, this is not offered by the Savi 2 62-DRW. The functionality of the Savi 2 62-DRW is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional features like fall alerts or Siri integrations do provide considerable added value but are not relevant for good hearing balance.
With interchangeable microphone filters, the sound quality of the ReSound device can be maintained in the long term. The filter change is easy to carry out oneself.
