The Signia Intuis M 4.2 HdO in review
Die Technik dieser Gerätefamilie ist bereits überholt. Wir haben die Bewertung deshalb mit einem Abschlag in der Gesamtnote versehen. Zur neuesten Chiptechnik des Herstellers geht es hier entlang: Audio Service G8
Once again, we focus on a hearing aid from the company Signia. This time it is a standard hearing aid with a thick or thin plastic tube behind the ear, called the Intuis M 4.2 HdO. It is a small-sized hearing aid, and it is moderately priced. It can be used for both mild and stronger hearing needs. Let’s take a look at what the interior has to offer:
Hearing comfort
In the first chapter, we assess the quality of noise management. We refer to this as listening comfort, as these features determine how pleasant the hearing aid wearer finds the sound of their hearing aids. However, noises can vary widely and require different tools for suppression. In the Intuis M 4.2 BTE, we find only the absolute essentials regarding listening comfort. First, we look at noise suppression, which is meant to tame everyday sounds like ventilation or refrigerator noise. In this Signia model, we are not exactly spoiled, but we can live well with basic noise suppression.
There is also supposed to be an impulse sound filter. It dampens short, clattering noises but only very little, so it’s not really helpful. The Intuis M 4.2 BTE does have wind reduction, but it doesn’t really work outdoors. The 8 frequency channels are okay. However, it might be that the programming for individual hearing needs isn’t quite precise, and one might have to make some acoustic compromises. We are currently quite far away from a 3D sound experience. Only the adjustable forward focus offers a bit of hearing support in social situations.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet implemented in this Signia model.
Rating Hearing comfort: 4,7
Operation & connectivity
Occasionally, you find yourself in situations where it would be good if the hearing aid were set up differently. After all, we live in hectic times, where the acoustic environment frequently changes. Most hearing aids have specific options for influencing the settings themselves. This is how it works with the Intuis M 4.2 behind-the-ear: Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we have found one on the Intuis M 4.2 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. Those who are not keen on touching their ear to raise the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for easy and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
We are always excited when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For instance, we would have liked to see voice control included here. However, this is not available in the Intuis M 4.2 behind-the-ear at the moment. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a simple tap of the finger, without having to press a button explicitly. This feature is still not implemented here.
An app for individual operation is available for free. However, it only offers basic functions that are useful but not really enjoyable to use. The Intuis M 4.2 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna, allowing us to enjoy phone calls in both ears. This gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We find this positive and are happy to give points.

Simplicity & security
Now let's briefly discuss everyday usability. Is the Intuis M 4.2 BTE user-friendly and easy to handle? Does it have water protection? Here are our findings: When it comes to simplicity, it initially involves straightforward, effortless hearing. This works quite well with the existing automatic situation detection in the Intuis M 4.2 BTE. However, when the acoustic environment is somewhat more varied, the automation reaches its limits, and we prefer to resort to manual adjustment options. The built-in acclimatization manager can be of great help when entering the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions. More information about acclimatization and other hearing aids with this feature is summarized here: Acclimatization to Hearing Aids.
The Intuis M 4.2 BTE is not rechargeable. It continues to draw its energy from disposable batteries size 13, which need to be replaced every few days.
The hearing aid has been classified in protection class IP 68. This ensures comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily harm the hearing aid. This makes it well-equipped for outdoor activities, where it may get wet and dirty. However, you should still avoid bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and ultimately cause damage.

Extras
Sometimes it’s the little things that make a hearing aid perfect. Therefore, let’s quickly take a look at the extras that might be included: The tinnitus program is definitely worth mentioning. Those who are plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, quiet sounds are set in such a way that they gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is hardly noticeable anymore.
Signia is keeping up with the times and provides a future-oriented feature with the remote adjustment service. Working people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer journey to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
This Intuis M 4.2 variant does not have sensors, so the popular health tracking feature cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this function onboard. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but there are none in the Intuis M 4.2 BTE. Other hearing aids can score points with features like language translation or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.

In the overall result, this test device ranks in the lower positions and lacks some features. We award a rating of 3.88. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
