The Signia Intuis P 4.1 HdO in review
We are taking another look at an previously widely used hearing aid for mild, moderate, and even profound hearing losses: This model is called Intuis P 4.1 BTE and comes from the company Signia. It is worn behind the ear, and it is a small hearing aid. The Intuis P 4.1 BTE is a model from the more affordable category. Let's see if the pricing classification is justified.
Hearing comfort
In the Hearing Comfort section, we look at how a hearing aid handles all the background noise. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to a user liking and regularly wearing their hearing aids. In this Signia device, we find only the absolute essentials concerning hearing comfort. The regular noise suppression is supposed to soften consistent, hissing background noises. In the Intuis P 4.1 behind-the-ear model, this works only to a limited extent. There is nothing more than very basic noise suppression included here.
Unfortunately, we did not find a blast filter that reacts to short, loud noises. We searched in vain for wind management; there is no wind noise suppression here. We lack natural spatial hearing with this device, which poses several difficulties in daily life. We can no longer reliably recognize directions. Those with limited vision should consider choosing a different hearing aid. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adjusting to hearing needs. The behind-the-ear model only provides 8 and does not allow for many long-term fine-tuning options.
An exciting topic in audioprosthetics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this feature is not yet applied in this Signia model.

Operation & connectivity
Although hearing aids are now very intelligent, they still cannot read the thoughts of the hearing aid wearer. And so the automation sometimes reaches its limits. Individual adjustment options can be really useful, so let's take a quick look at the options available with the Intuis P 4.1 BTE: There is a button directly on the hearing aid. This can be used to change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed entirely according to customer preferences. The use is, of course, optional. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid louder or quieter or switch to another hearing program. No one notices it, and reaching for the ear is not necessary.
The modern form of operation via voice command is not yet found in the Intuis P 4.1 BTE. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap of the finger in this Signia model, as it would have required specific sensors in the housing.
Those who wish can download an app. This offers a convenient and discreet way to adjust the volume or the hearing programs of the Intuis P 4.1 BTE. Everything works quite well. Problems when making phone calls with a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are transmitted completely wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls and while listening to music while exercising. Everything worked smoothly and easily. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz radio technology is needed.

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. The Intuis P 4.1 RIC automatically accesses the most important hearing settings, making daily use easier. However, those who frequently experience changing acoustic environments should have the manual additional programs configured. The built-in acclimatization manager can be a great help when entering the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing experiences. More information about acclimatization and other hearing aids with this feature can be found here: Acclimatization to Hearing Aids.
The Intuis P 4.1 RIC is not equipped with a battery, so it is not rechargeable. It relies on a Hearing Aid Battery of size 13, which needs to be replaced every few days.
With IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse conditions. Dust cannot penetrate, it can endure prolonged immersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,3
Extras
The finale belongs to the extras, meaning small additional features that could provide the hearing aid with a few extra points: Manufacturers often implement a tinnitus program in their hearing aids to alleviate the annoying ringing somewhat. However, Signia has opted out of this feature in this model. This is unfortunate because it would be a real added value for many people.
We find the remote adjustment feature very good. It is always very helpful when you just want to change a small detail in the hearing aid settings but don’t want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you can make contact via the app, and the hearing professional sends an adjusted data package back through the same channel.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track, for example, some personal health data. However, the Intuis P 4.1 BTE does not offer this. It would have been nice to have some lifestyle features, but those are not available in the Intuis P 4.1 BTE. Other hearing aids can score points with speech translators or fall alarms, but here it remains with the usual range of functions.

Conclusion: Signia Intuis P 4.1 HdO
This test device ranks low overall and lacks some features. We award a score of 4.25. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
