The Signia Intuis P 4.2 HdO in review
Once again, we focus on a hearing aid from the company Signia. This time it is a conventional behind-the-ear hearing aid named Intuis P 4.2 BTE. It is not exactly a conspicuous hearing aid and is priced rather affordably. It can be used for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing needs. Let's take a look at what the interior has to offer:
Hearing comfort
Hearing aids should not only bring speech to the ear but also sound pleasant. So let's first take a look at the comfort features. What types of noise can the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively everyday life? Here with this test device, we find only the absolute essentials concerning hearing comfort. As with every hearing aid, it also contains the typical noise cancellation. It is supposed to reduce uniform, noisy ambient sounds to the point that they no longer dominate. With the Intuis P 4.2 BTE, your expectations should not be too high. Street noise outside will certainly be sufficiently reduced, but what is loud will also remain loud.
We found a basic wind detection, but unfortunately, nothing is adjustable. A pulse sound filter is also said to be implemented. However, it dampens short, rattling noises only very minimally, which is not really helpful. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adjusting to hearing needs. The BTE only provides us with 8 bands and does not allow for many fine-tuning options in the long term. The microphones in the Intuis P 4.2 BTE can be switched to face forward. However, that is the only feature that slightly supports spatial hearing.
Signia has not yet implemented artificial intelligence in this version.

Operation & connectivity
Buttons, switches, controls... or would you prefer an app? Control elements can significantly expand the functionality of hearing aids. Is there something like that in the Intuis P 4.2 HdO? We took a look. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical because it is the easiest and quickest way to make adjustments. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to adjust anything directly on your ear, you can of course deactivate the button. Upon request, a remote control for the hearing aid is available. This allows for effortless volume control. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Signia unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical when fingers are not as agile anymore or when one simply likes smart gadgets. Touch control for the hearing aids is not available in this Signia model, as it would have required specific sensors in the casing.
Signia offers an appropriate app for easier operation. However, it is not particularly well-equipped and barely goes beyond basic functions like loud/quiet and hearing programs. You no longer need headphones here, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security
In the next step, we want to address the topic of user-friendliness. Is the Intuis P 4.2 BTE easy to handle? Is it weatherproof? Does one need to do a lot to get used to it? Here are our answers: The integrated situation recognition in the Intuis P 4.2 BTE is rated as fairly average. The most important loud and quiet situations are recognized and adapted. However, this is not quite sufficient for acoustically more complex moments, as one cannot avoid further manual adjustment options. Very important to us in terms of simplicity is the support during the acclimatization phase. Especially after years of poor hearing, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us through the adjustment phase with very small volume adjustments. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
The BTE of the Intuis P 4.2 is powered by 13 size non-rechargeable batteries, and it is not rechargeable. This has its advantages and disadvantages. For the decision "Rechargeable or Battery," we have provided assistance here: Rechargeable hearing aids or batteries: 6 criteria for your decision.
With IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it can withstand prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

Extras
Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let’s see if we can find some here: A special tinnitus program can be programmed in the Intuis P 4.2 HdO upon request. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.
The ability to adjust settings remotely is excellent. It is very helpful when you want to make just a small change to the hearing aid settings but do not want to go to the audiologist. Instead, you can make contact via the app, and the hearing professional sends back an updated data package the same way.
There are no sensors in this Intuis P 4.2 version, so the popular health tracking feature cannot be offered. For example, it would count the steps throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this function on board. It also lacks additional features such as special assistance systems, a fall alert, or a language translator. This is not a big deal, as it does not impact the important hearing functions.

Conclusion: Signia Intuis P 4.2 HdO
In the overall result, this test device ends up in the lower positions and is missing some features. We assign a rating of 3.88. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable; however, for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
