We tested a discreet hearing aid from the higher price range this time. It is the Signia Pure 5 X 312T. It is worn behind the ear and is designed for mild to severe hearing loss. The speaker, which is placed directly in the ear canal, is due to its design, which is why it also delivers a beautiful, clear sound.

First, we assess the hearing comfort features. What types of noises does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? The adjustable microphones help to recognize specific directions and can assist in noise cancellation, but the spatial sound was not very natural.

For difficult hearing situations, Signia offers a special strategy: In the app, you will find an assistance feature that allows for spontaneous and tailored adjustments based on artificial intelligence. It serves as a kind of intelligent immediate help, in case you are not near your audiologist.

The operation of hearing aids today can be as simple or as complex as one would like. The basic functions operate completely automatically. We wanted to know how users can further access the Pure 5 X 312T. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, one can adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. The use is, of course, optional. Those who do not like to touch their ear to turn up the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for comfortable and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.

We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. However, this is currently not available in the Pure 5 X 312T. This Signia model does not have the capability to control the hearing aid with a simple tap, as it would require specific sensors in the housing.

As is common today, we also find a smartphone app for the Pure 5 X 312T. This app contains solid basic functions and adds a few extra goodies. Headphones are no longer needed here, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in daily life. This includes automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. A well-functioning situation recognition creates a lot of relaxation in everyday hearing. You don’t have to constantly switch the device and can easily give in to the automated adjustments. We give a big plus for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly facilitates the adjustment to the new sound.

Unfortunately, the Pure 5 X 312T is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so you need to regularly use size 312 batteries for operation.

The functionality of the Pure 5 X 312T is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional functions such as fall alerts or Siri connections provide considerable added value but are not relevant for achieving good hearing balance.
