The Unitron Ativo 312 in review
Once again, we focus on a hearing aid from the company Unitron. This time it is a behind-the-ear hearing aid, known from earlier times, called Ativo 312. It is a discreet, small hearing aid, and it falls into the more affordable category. It can be used for mild, moderate, and also severe hearing losses. Let's take a look at what the inside has to offer:
Hearing comfort
In the section on hearing comfort, we examine how a hearing aid handles all the background noise. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to whether a user likes and regularly wears their hearing aids. In this Unitron device, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. The regular noise suppression has the task of softening uniform, hissing background noises. In the Ativo 312, we have to settle for a minimum level of noise suppression.
According to the manufacturer, impulse sound suppression is integrated, but we could hardly feel it. We searched in vain for wind management; there is no wind noise reduction here. Navigating in space, locating sounds or speakers is rather difficult with this hearing aid. There are no supportive functions for the microphones. We can hardly award points for this, and we recommend thinking carefully about it. After all, spatial hearing also helps with finding one’s way in public spaces and in traffic. A few more frequency channels would be desirable, but even with the existing 12 channels, it is still quite manageable.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this Unitron model.

Operation & connectivity
The majority of functions are activated automatically by this Unitron model. However, it can be very useful to have the option to expand the functionality a bit. In our test, we found out what options we have here. The simplest way to operate it is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has that too. It can be programmed to your liking. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for step-by-step volume adjustment. Or do you need different special programs for your professional daily life or your hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you prefer to keep everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it disabled. A remote control is available for the Ativo 312. It is quite handy, fits in your pocket, and provides a volume adjustment option as well as various listening programs.
We always appreciate it when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. But it isn't available in the Ativo 312 at the moment. Tap Control would also have been an interesting feature. With that, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But that's not present here in the Ativo 312 yet.
The manual operation includes an app. This allows for unobtrusive access to the hearing aid. Besides volume control, you can also adjust listening programs and a few other functions. For our digital daily life, a streaming option wouldn't be bad. The device at hand meets our wish and includes a 2.4 GHz radio module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.

Simplicity & security
Our analysis also addresses the everyday usability of hearing aids. This includes robustness, but also special comfort features that aim to make daily use as simple as possible. When it comes to relaxed listening, the Ativo 312 is only easy if you primarily stay in quiet listening environments. If it gets loud or challenging, we do not receive support from adaptive situational automation. If at all, one can only assist with manual controls. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.
Unfortunately, the Ativo 312 is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so you need to regularly use size 312 batteries for operation.
The Ativo is nearly dust and water-resistant and is certainly well protected against external influences with its IP 68 rating.
Rating Simplicity & security: 3,0
Extras
We complete the test by checking if there are a few extras for you: For example, a tinnitus option would be interesting. Unfortunately, we have not discovered any way to alleviate tinnitus in the Ativo 312.
Unitron is keeping up with the times and offers a future-oriented feature with the remote fitting service. Working people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer journey to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
There are no sensors in this Ativo variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered either. For instance, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have this feature on board. This Unitron hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don’t need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
Rating Extras: 3,3
Conclusion: Unitron Ativo 312
In the overall result, this test device ranks in the lower positions and is missing some features. We give it a score of 3.5. This is acceptable for less demanding listeners, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
