Unitron offers the B Insera 9 312, a petite, small hearing aid that is worn in the ear. It is a hearing aid from the premium category and is suitable for mild to moderate hearing losses. The comfortable and acoustically favorable position in the ear canal ensures that sound reaches the eardrum without loss.
Hearing comfort
First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. For this hearing aid, the manufacturer provides customers with comprehensive noise management. The traditional background noise suppression ensures that uniform, insignificant sounds are slightly reduced. In the B Insera 9 312, the ambient noise is processed in a way that allows for relaxed listening. Some hearing aids reach their limits when the wind sweeps over the microphones outside. That can get pretty loud. But Unitron has something to counter that, namely a strongly attenuating, adjustable wind noise suppression. It works very well and helps all those who enjoy being outside.
Additionally, we are surprised at how well the impulse sound management works here. Nothing crashes, nothing rattles – very good! Spatial hearing is of great importance for orientation in space and for recognizing directions and distances. With this hearing aid from Unitron, one can feel completely secure. It mimics the function of natural hearing and makes information accessible from all directions. For a precise, realistic listening experience, the number of adjustable frequency bands is of great significance. With 20, this Unitron device is a true top model and allows for differentiated fine-tuning over several years.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet present in the B Insera 9 312.

Operation & connectivity
The majority of the functions are automatically activated by this Unitron model. However, it can be very useful to expand the functionality a bit further. In our tests, we found out what options we have here. First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very sensible, as it is the simplest and fastest way to make changes. The volume can be adjusted through this button, and various hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to adjust anything directly on the ear, you can of course disable the button. A remote control is available for the B Insera 9 312. It's quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up/down option as well as various hearing programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Unitron unfortunately cannot yet. This would be practical if your fingers are not very nimble anymore or if you just like smart gadgets. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also feature a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device switches modes. However, we don’t have that here at Unitron; certain specific sensors would have been required for that.
Manual operation includes an app. This allows you to discreetly access the hearing aid. In addition to volume control, you can also adjust hearing programs and a few other functions. For our digital everyday life, a streaming option would be nice. The device at hand meets our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.

Usability is the next aspect we want to address. This is about everyday practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to navigate life with the hearing aid. The B Insera 9 312 performs exceptionally well in situation recognition. For those who desire a comprehensive and powerful full automation in their hearing aid and want to make as few adjustments as possible, this is an excellent choice. The adaptive algorithms untangle the individual sound events in the environment and present the soundscape clearly and precisely. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.
Zinc-air batteries power the B Insera 9 312. Changing the batteries may become quite challenging for people with limited dexterity or vision. If you have concerns about this, it might be better to look for a rechargeable model.
Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not have any special protection against penetrating dust or moisture; in any case, there is no certification that defines the robustness of the device. It may not be very suitable for an active lifestyle.

Extras
Before we reach the end, let's take a look at the extras: A special tinnitus program can be programmed upon request in the B Insera 9 312. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.
We really appreciate the remote adjustment feature. It is very helpful when you only want to make a small change to the hearing aid settings but don't want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you can contact them via the app, and the hearing professional sends back a tailored data package in the same way.
Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Unitron model lacks the sensors for this service. Other hearing aids already offer some extended options such as a fall alarm or reminder functions. We do not find that here, and it's not so dramatic because the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
