Hearing comfort
Our first test category is hearing comfort. Actually, we could also say sound comfort, because that's the main focus. Does the hearing aid sound very technical or beautifully natural? Are too many background noises amplified, or do they stay relatively in the background? In this device from Unitron, a solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. The noise suppression is a very traditional feature; it filters out all chaotic, uniform sounds from the environment and reduces their volume. The V Moxi 1 312 does have a very basic noise suppression feature, but it only provides a very slight attenuation.
Wind can significantly restrict hearing comfort outdoors when it blows across the microphones. However, the V Moxi 1 312 has efficient wind noise suppression integrated. It works really well and will delight those who enjoy being outside. It can be adjusted in several stages to meet individual needs. Furthermore, we are surprised at how well the impulse sound management works here. Nothing bangs, nothing rattles – very good! The V Moxi 1 312 has 12 adjustable frequency bands, placing it in the mid-range. A good acoustician can certainly extract reasonable sound from it. The hearing aid automatically decides whether the microphones should focus on a speaker or not. There is a decent sense of spatial awareness, but precisely locating directions or judging distances by hearing is not so easy.
Artificial intelligence has also made its way into hearing aids, for example, in the V Moxi 1 312. This allows for much more data to be available to identify speech and noise. In our experience, the sound from hearing aids with AI is perceived as particularly precise and realistic.

Operation & connectivity
The majority of hearing aids automatically adapt to their environment. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make adjustments yourself. After all, the hearing aid doesn’t know how you are feeling at any given moment. We looked into the control options that the V Moxi 1 312 offers: First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very sensible, as it is the simplest and quickest way to make changes. The volume can be adjusted through this, and various hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to adjust anything directly at the ear, you can, of course, deactivate the button. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you’re talking to is speaking too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Recently, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or softer with voice commands. The idea is really good, but Unitron is not there yet with this device. Don’t worry about it; this feature would be nice, but it's not essential. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger, without needing to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even though the app is not one of our favorites, it is still a useful addition to the V Moxi 1 312. Issues with phone calls on the smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Calls, music, and other sounds are transmitted completely wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls and while listening to music during sports. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a suitable smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is required.

How does one cope with the hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will assess. Because only when such a device functions simply and uncomplicatedly can one get used to it. Unfortunately, the V Moxi 1 312 cannot provide automatic situation detection, so we have to make manual adjustments to hear well in different acoustic situations. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is an enormous relief. The volume does not have to be immediately raised to the maximum. One can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost unnoticed the amplification approaches the target.
We regret that the V Moxi 1 312 does not have a rechargeable battery but is powered by hearing aid batteries of size 312. This is not particularly problematic, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand: This hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it runs longer with a battery.
We had a carefree everyday life during our test due to the IP-68 certification. This signifies that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and afterwards took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or seawater.

Am Ende versinkt der Tinnitus in der Geräuschkulisse und fällt gar nicht mehr störend auf.
Einen echten Mehrwert bietet der Fernwartungsdienst. Für eine Veränderung der Hörgeräteeinstellung muss man nicht mehr zwingend ins Fachgeschäft gehen, sondern kann direkt über die App Kontakt zum Akustiker aufnehmen. Über einen Cloud-Dienst kann man dann das neue Datenpaket in die Hörgeräte laden. Genau so etwas erwarten wir von einem zeitgemäßen Hörgerät.
Sensoren gibt es in dieser V Moxi 1-Variante nicht, so dass auch das beliebte Gesundheits-Tracking nicht angeboten werden kann. Dabei werden z.B. die Schritte über den Tag gezählt. Wie gesagt - dieses Hörgerät hat diese Funktion nicht an Bord. Jetzt wäre es noch schön gewesen, ein paar Lifestyle-Funktionen zu haben, aber die gibt es im V Moxi 1 312 nicht. Andere Hörgeräte können mit Sprachübersetzer oder Sturzalarm punkten, aber hier bleibt es beim üblichen Funktionsumfang.
