The Unitron V Stride 5 UP in review
Our testers have examined another hearing aid from the upper mid-range segment. We present to you: the Unitron V Stride 5 UP. Here we have a standard hearing aid with a thick or thin plastic tube that is worn behind the ear. It can be used by those who want to compensate for moderate, stronger, and fluctuating hearing losses. The V Stride 5 UP is a medium-sized hearing aid. Is it worth purchasing this model? We reveal the details.
Hearing comfort
What is most annoying for hearing aid users: Exactly, background noise. That's why we first look at what comfort features the test device includes. The V Stride 5 UP provides customers with comprehensive noise management. Normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is intended to dampen constant sounds like traffic noise or the hum of an air conditioner. In our test device from Unitron, we have quite decent noise suppression. It may be too weak if you are often in traffic, but in daily life, it is manageable.
Additionally, there is a really strong impulse noise filter that reduces all short, sharp impulses as much as the customer desires. Wind can significantly affect hearing comfort outdoors when it passes over the microphones. But the V Stride 5 UP has an efficient wind noise suppression integrated. It really works well and will delight people who enjoy being outside. It can be adjusted in multiple levels to meet individual needs. A high number of frequency bands helps separate speech from noise. With its 16 bands, the V Stride 5 UP is certainly in the upper range. Spatial hearing may initially be somewhat difficult, but once you understand how the microphones behave in certain situations, you can reliably estimate directions and distances.
Understanding speech in noisy environments is always a challenge. Unitron tackles this issue with the use of artificial intelligence. The result is brilliant and clear speech transmission, while background noises still come to the ear at realistic levels.

Operation & connectivity
Although hearing aids are now very intelligent, they still cannot read the thoughts of the hearing aid user. Therefore, the automatic features sometimes reach their limits. Individual adjustment options can be really useful, so let's briefly look at the options available with the V Stride 5 UP: Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the V Stride 5 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. Those who prefer not to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
We always feel excited when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For instance, we would have liked to see a voice control feature included here. However, that is currently not available in the V Stride 5 UP. Another option to control the hearing aids is a tap control. This involves simply tapping on the ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. However, this capability is not available in this Unitron device.
An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we have found one for the V Stride 5 UP as well. In addition to basic functions like volume and programs, we find a few more buttons for personalization. Problems with making phone calls using a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are transmitted completely wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls as well as for listening to music while exercising. Everything worked smoothly and seamlessly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

Simplicity & security
We continue our test and try out how easy this hearing aid is to handle. After all, it is supposed to simplify the everyday life of hearing aid users and not complicate it further. Typical hearing situations that everyone experiences in their environment are reliably recognized and adjusted through automatic settings. However, for more specific, recurring requirements, one cannot avoid using the manual hearing programs. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help when starting in the world of hearing aids. Its job is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can gradually and comfortably get used to the new auditory experiences. More information on acclimatization and other hearing aids with this feature is summarized here: Acclimatization to Hearing Aids.
Many hearing aids today have a rechargeable battery, but the V Stride 5 UP still operates with disposable batteries. This is somewhat cumbersome to handle and also has an environmental impact.
With IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse conditions. Dust cannot penetrate, it can withstand longer immersion in water, and it is also protected against touches.

Extras
At the end of our test report, there is still a bit of space for the extra features: Are you among the tinnitus sufferers? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the V Stride 5 UP. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus disappears into the general noise and is no longer a nuisance. This is a simple yet effective tool and earns extra points from us. We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If you have no opportunity to visit the hearing specialist, you can instead contact them via the app, briefly describe your hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, you load it into your hearing aids. If Unitron had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individual health tracking could even be possible. However, this is not the case here. These points are lost for the V Stride 5 UP in the rating. This Unitron hearing aid has no further lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need those for good hearing. They would have just made the product a bit cooler.
