The Widex Magnify 60 BTE 13 D in review
Our testers have examined another hearing aid from the low-budget range. We present: the Widex Magnify 60 BTE 13 D. Here we have a hearing aid in the classical sense that is worn behind the ear. It can be used by those who want to compensate for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing losses. The Magnify 60 BTE 13 D is a slightly visible hearing aid. Is it worth purchasing this model? We will reveal the details.
Hearing comfort
In the section on hearing comfort, we look at how a hearing aid handles all surrounding noises. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to whether a user likes their hearing aids and wears them regularly. With this Widex device, we only find the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. The regular noise suppression has the task of softening uniform, rumbling background noises. In the Magnify 60 BTE 13 D, this works only to a limited extent. There is nothing more than a very basic noise suppression here.
A so-called blast filter would have been nice; it would have made the clattering when emptying the dishwasher a bit more bearable. But we have to do without that in the Magnify 60 BTE 13 D. Wind noises are also a topic. Many people like to spend time outdoors and are then a little disturbed by the wind. Unfortunately, there is no wind management here, so one simply has to endure the sounds of air movements. We miss a good room sound, but the automatic focus can certainly be helpful in situations with multiple people. The equalizer in the Magnify 60 BTE 13 D has only 6 bands. This means that for any changes, one can only access fairly large frequency ranges. So you always change quite a bit at once, and the small nuances cannot be implemented.
Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but this device is not yet one of them.

Operation & connectivity
Most hearing aids automatically adjust to their surroundings. However, it is sometimes very practical to be able to make changes yourself. After all, the hearing aid doesn't know how you are feeling at the moment. We looked at the control options available with the Magnify 60 BTE 13 D: First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very useful because it is the simplest and quickest way to make adjustments. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to adjust anything directly at the ear, you can of course deactivate the button. On request, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This makes it easy to control the volume. The operation is not only easy, but no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.
The modern method of control via voice command is not yet available in the Magnify 60 BTE 13 D. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap of the finger in this Widex model, as it would require specific sensors in the housing.
The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even if the app is not one of our favorites, it is still a helpful addition to the Magnify 60 BTE 13 D. Problems when making calls with the smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are transmitted completely wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls as well as for listening to music while exercising. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a suitable smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

Simplicity & security
Continuing with the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? When it comes to relaxed listening, the Magnify 60 BTE 13 D is only easy to use if you mostly stay in quiet listening environments. If it does get louder or more challenging, we don't receive support from adaptive situational automation. If at all, one can only assist with manual operating options. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually raises the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually adapt to the new auditory impressions.
Unfortunately, the Magnify 60 BTE 13 D is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so regular size 13 batteries are required for operation.
We had a carefree everyday life during our test due to the IP-68 certification. This means that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands – no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bath water or saltwater.

Widex Magnify 60 BTE 13 D:
Extras
Finally, we are interested in whether there are a few additional goodies: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. This will benefit all those who are troubled by annoying ear noises. Pleasant, quiet sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer disturbing.
A clever tool is the integrated remote service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. Therefore, such a remote service is absolutely appropriate. Those who need a new programming of their hearing aids can easily contact the audiologist via the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send an individual setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is uploaded to the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health features. However, since the Magnify 60 BTE 13 D does not have any special sensors for that, we cannot present any particular features here. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but they are not available in the Magnify 60 BTE 13 D. Other hearing aids can score points with speech translators or fall alerts, but here it remains within the usual functional range.
