In this test report, we look at the SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R. It was developed by Widex and is suitable for mild to severe hearing losses. This variant is worn behind the ear. The SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R is a small, barely visible hearing aid from a price range slightly above average. We achieve clean sound transmission through the receiver (= speaker), which is directly inserted into the ear canal.
Hearing comfort
One of our favorite chapters is listening comfort, as it addresses one of the most important topics in our conversations with customers: background noise. Ideally, everyone would only hear speech and block out all other sounds. However, it's not that simple. Without sounds, our lives would sound very thin and empty. That’s why hearing aids are designed to keep sounds in check, but not eliminate them completely.
In the SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R, we find only the absolute essentials when it comes to listening comfort. The mandatory noise suppression is meant to activate for anything that has a consistent background hum, like the heating or the extractor hood. In this device, a stronger noise reduction would be desirable, but that is reserved for higher-end hearing aids.
When the wind sweeps over the microphones outdoors, we wish for wind noise reduction. However, this is lacking here, and in some outdoor situations, it can significantly impair listening comfort. Unfortunately, an impulse sound damper is not included in the SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R. The hearing aid can automatically focus on the speaker in front, but we don’t receive much more support for spatial hearing from the SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R. The equalizer in the SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R has only 6 bands. This means that for any desired changes, one can only access fairly large frequency ranges. Therefore, one ends up making significant changes, and the subtle nuances cannot be adjusted.
Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but this device has not reached that level yet.

Operation & connectivity
Would you like to be able to adjust something on your hearing aids yourself? We believe it can be quite useful to have one or another option for customization. Let's take a look at how this works with the SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R. The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has that as well. It can be programmed according to your preferences. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for gradual adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who wants to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it disabled. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is with a remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're talking to is speaking too softly again, a click or two is enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Widex unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical if the fingers are no longer very agile or if you simply like smart gadgets. There is no fingertip control for these hearing aids in this Widex model, as specific sensors would have been needed in the casing for that.
An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we have found one for the SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R as well. In addition to the basic functions like volume and programs, we find a few more buttons for personalization. A streaming option would not be bad for our digital daily life. The present device fulfills our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to send calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.

Here’s what we found: Automatic situation recognition is only rudimentarily integrated into the SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R. We have to resort to the manual options relatively often and adjust our hearing aid ourselves to the environments. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help when starting to enter the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This allows you to relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions. The SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R is rechargeable and no longer requires hearing aid batteries. This is environmentally friendly, as there are no used batteries to dispose of. At the same time, it is also extremely convenient, as no spare batteries need to be carried around. The hearing aids simply go into the charging station at night and are ready to use the next morning.
We had an unimpeded everyday experience in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - all without issue. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or saltwater.

Leise, sanfte Klänge werden auf Ihr Gehör abgestimmt und beschäftigten alle Bereiche im Innenohr. Das ist nichts weiter als ein Ablenkungsmanöver, und es funktioniert erstaunlich gut. Der Tinnitus verschwindet in dem allgemeinen Geräusch und nervt nicht weiter. Das ist ein einfaches, aber wirksames Tool und bekommt von uns Extrapunkte.
Ein cleveres Tool ist der integrierte Fernwartungsservice. Fast jeder hat ein Smartphone, und Zeit ist ein knappes Gut. Deshalb ist so ein Fernwartungsservice absolut angemessen. Wer eine neue Programmierung seiner Hörgeräte benötigt, kann ganz einfach über die App Kontakt zum Akustiker aufnehmen und seine Hörwünsche beschreiben. Über einen Cloud-Service kann der Profi dann eine individuelle Einstellung als Datenpaket in die App schicken. Von dort wird sie aufs Hörgerät geladen und kann sofort ausprobiert werden. Das verdient auf jeden Fall Extrapunkte in unserem Test.
Ein neuer Trend in der Hörgerätebranche sind integrierte Sensoren, mit denen z.B. ein paar persönliche Gesundheitsdaten getrackt werden können. Das hat das SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R aber nicht im Angebot. Der Funktionsumfang im SmartRIC 110 mini RITE R beschränkt sich auf das normale Hören, was auch völlig in Ordnung ist. Zusatzfunktionen wie Sturzalarm oder Siri-Verknüpfungen haben schon einen ordentlichen Mehrwert, sind aber für einen guten Hörausgleich nicht relevant.
