We are once again in the test lab, and this time we had a product from Widex in our hands, or rather, on our ear. The full product designation is SmartRIC 330 mini RITE R, and it is classified among the devices in the upper segment of the hearing aid prices. Due to the comfortable position of the speaker in the ear canal, it has good acoustic properties. The SmartRIC 330 mini RITE R is worn behind the ear, and it is a small, barely noticeable hearing aid for mild, moderate, and stronger hearing needs.
Hearing comfort
What is bothersome for most hearing aid users: Exactly, the background noises. That's why we will first take a look at the comfort features of the test device. The SmartRIC 330 mini RITE R allows for solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional. A normal background noise suppression is definitely present. It is supposed to dampen constant noises like street noise or the hum of the air conditioning. In our test device from Widex, noise suppression works rather average, but it is somewhat adjustable.
Short, loud sounds are quickly recognized and effectively reduced in the SmartRIC 330 mini RITE R, thanks to an adjustable impulse sound damper. We searched in vain for wind management; there is no wind noise reduction here. The SmartRIC 330 mini RITE R doesn't have a lot of adjustable equalizer bands, but the 12 should be sufficient for a good hearing experience. We are satisfied with the spatial features. The hearing aid has adaptive microphones that support spatial hearing very well.
For difficult listening situations, Widex has a special strategy: In the app, you will find an assistance feature that enables spontaneous and precise adjustments based on artificial intelligence. It's a kind of intelligent instant help if you are not near your hearing care professional.

Operation & connectivity
Although hearing aids are now very intelligent, they still cannot read the thoughts of the hearing aid wearer. Thus, the automation sometimes faces limitations. Individual adjustment options can be really useful, so let’s briefly look at the options for the SmartRIC 330 mini RITE R: There is usually a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the SmartRIC 330 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is through the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're speaking to happens to be too quiet, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Voice commands are a fairly new way to operate hearing aids. However, this model does not have that option yet. That's not a big deal - the main thing is to be able to hear well. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch modes. However, we do not have that here at Widex; it would have required certain sensors.
Our favorite tool for hearing aids is the app, and we really like this one. In addition to the obligatory volume controls, there are also options for sound customization. This significantly expands the potential of the SmartRIC 330 mini RITE R and provides relief when hearing becomes tiring. Problems with smartphone calls are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely transmitted wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls and while listening to music during sports. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

Simplicity & security
Um weiterhin die Perspektive der Hörgeräteträger einzunehmen, brauchen wir natürlich auch einen Test auf Alltagstauglichkeit. Das ist dabei herausgekommen: Die automatische Situationserkennung hat in unserem Test einen hohen Stellenwert. Je besser die funktioniert, desto leichter kommt unser Gehör durch den Tag. Das SmartRIC 330 mini RITE R arbeitet hier souverän und passt sich vielen Situationen an. Über den integrierten Eingewöhnungsmanager freuen wir uns sehr. Er hebt im Hintergrund die Lautstärke des Hörgerätes in winzig kleinen Schritten an, bis unsere Zielverstärkung irgendwann erreicht ist. Wir können uns entspannt und ganz allmählich an die neuen Höreindrücke gewöhnen.
Im SmartRIC 330 mini RITE R steckt ein Akku. Das finden wir sehr gut, denn aufladbare Hörgeräte sind absolut zeitgemäß. Man muss nicht überall Batterien herumliegen haben und auch nicht mitten im Konzert die Batterie auswechseln. Das Hörgerät wird über Nacht einfach in die Ladestation gesteckt und hat dann genügend Energie für den folgenden Tag.
Das SmartRIC 330 ist nahezu staub- und wasserdicht und mit seiner IP 68-Klassifizierung sicherlich bestens geschützt gegen äußere Einflüsse.

Extras
Bevor wir zum Ende kommen, werfen wir noch einen Blick auf die Extras: Hier ist uns die Tinnitus-Option aufgefallen. Wer mag, kann sich ein spezielles Tinnitus-Programm einrichten lassen. Das legt bei Bedarf ein sanftes Rauschen auf die Ohren, um vom nervigen Tinnitus ein wenig abzulenken. Die Geräusche können nach dem persönlichen Hörgeschmack gestaltet werden.
Einen echten Mehrwert bietet der Fernwartungsdienst. Für eine Veränderung der Hörgeräteeinstellung muss man nicht mehr zwingend ins Fachgeschäft gehen, sondern kann direkt über die App Kontakt zum Akustiker aufnehmen. Über einen Cloud-Dienst kann man dann das neue Datenpaket in die Hörgeräte laden. Genau so etwas erwarten wir von einem zeitgemäßen Hörgerät.
Das Tracken von Gesundheitsdaten ist ein echter Mehrwert in modernen Hörgeräten. Für diesen Dienst fehlen diesem Widex-Modell allerdings die Sensoren. Das Gerät von Widex konzentriert sich auf die wesentlichen Hörfunktionen und bietet keine Extras wie Srachassistenten oder Übersetzungsfunktion an. Das hätte zwar Spaß gemacht, ist für ein gutes Hörerlebnis aber nicht erforderlich.
