Bernafon Encanta Hearing Aids: Made for Life in 2025

With the Encanta, Swiss manufacturer Bernafon has once again launched a hearing aid that marks a significant technological leap forward compared to its predecessor.

Here’s what’s new in this chip generation:

Smart Noise Management with Smart Sensor

Smart Noise Management is the heart of the Bernafon Encanta. This core technology analyzes all incoming signals, processes them, and delivers an optimized output signal to give you the best possible hearing experience in every situation. To do this, the Encanta relies on input from several key features:

Bernafon Encanta Smart Sensor

The Smart Sensor is a motion sensor that detects head and body movements and uses that information to assess your current listening environment.

To illustrate:

If you’re in a group and focusing on a conversation with one person, your head typically stays still—you might nod while listening. The hearing aid recognizes this and activates forward-facing directionality, reducing background noise so you can focus more clearly.

If your attention shifts between multiple people—as it often does in group discussions—your head will move more. In this case, the directional focus is deactivated and background noise suppression is eased, allowing you to stay naturally engaged in the dynamic conversation.

The sensors also detect whether you’re walking or standing still, which impacts microphone behavior. While walking, all-around awareness is key. But when you’re standing, the system shifts focus to the front.

And if you don’t want this level of automation, no worries—your hearing care professional can easily turn off the feature for you.

Wind and Handling Noise Suppression

This feature was already part of the previous Bernafon Alpha XT model. Its job is to detect and effectively reduce wind noise and handling sounds—those created when the microphones are touched, for example, while brushing your hair back or putting on glasses.

This signal cleaning helps minimize disruptions in sound playback, improving overall listening comfort.

Machine Learning 2.0 in Bernafon Encanta

Machine Learning 2.0 is the AI component of the Bernafon Encanta. It’s been trained with thousands of real-life hearing scenarios to learn how to adapt swiftly and precisely to changing environments.

This allows the device to instantly distinguish between different types of sounds and create a clear contrast between speech and background noise.

The faster the chip processes this step, the less you’ll notice the hearing aid doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes. The result is an intelligent, automatic adjustment process that works without drawing attention to itself.

The new Encanta chip is even faster and more efficient in this regard.

Smart Amplification with Extended Bandwidth

This processing stage is responsible for delivering the optimized signal at the power level you personally need.

With a broadened frequency range that now starts at 80 Hz and extends to 10,000 Hz, the Encanta offers fuller, more precise sound quality than ever before.

Even with this expanded soundscape, amplification remains well-balanced, ensuring no detail is lost. Speech and background noise are separated with subtle contrast through dedicated processing strategies—helping you understand conversations without tiring your ears, even in loud or complex environments.

Of course, the upgraded Impulse Noise Reduction Plus is still on board. It reacts instantly to sudden loud sounds, suppressing those spikes and immediately returning to normal amplification levels. Thanks to the ultra-fast signal processing, your listening experience stays smooth and undisturbed.

Impulse Noise Reduction Plus also works contextually—it dynamically adjusts its response based on the listening environment. For example, a soft clinking sound might be annoying in a quiet room but go unnoticed in a busy office. This means you always get appropriate impulse suppression for your specific situation.

New Design

Form Factor

The Encanta isn’t just about a new chip—it’s also launched with a completely redesigned housing.

Right: The new Encanta.

Charger

Along with the new form factor, Bernafon has introduced matching chargers. The new chargers impress with faster charging times:

  • 1 hour charge = full day of hearing (16 hours)
  • 15-minute charge = 4 hours of battery life
  • 30-minute charge = 8 hours of battery life
  • Full charge in 120 minutes

The desktop charger is perfect for easy, at-home use. The devices can be inserted and removed effortlessly.

The Plus Charger is the ideal companion for travel. Its lid turns it into a carrying case, and the built-in power bank can fully recharge the Encanta at least three times before needing to be plugged in again.

Bernafon states the battery capacity can last up to 24 hours. Actual battery life will vary depending on several factors, including the severity of your hearing loss and your streaming habits.

New Bluetooth Standard

The Bernafon Encanta family is now future-ready, introducing LE Audio as its Bluetooth standard. If you have a compatible device, you’ll benefit from crystal-clear streaming sound quality and broader universal connectivity.

We’ve put together a separate article that explains Bluetooth standards and their pros and cons in more detail.

Tap Control

Thanks to its innovative sensor technology, the new Bernafon Encanta can now be controlled simply by tapping your ear. You can answer calls effortlessly—no need to dig out your phone or fumble for a button behind your ear.

Bernafon Encanta Model Guide

Example: „Bernafon Encanta 400 MNR T R“

→ Model line: Encanta / Technology level: 400 / Style: MNR / Features: T and R

Technology Levels

  • 400 – Premium model with a full feature set for maximum hearing comfort
  • 300 – Upper mid-range, suitable for most user needs
  • 200 – Mid-range, handles key listening environments well
  • 100 – Entry-level, ideal for simple conversation settings

Form Factor / Style

MNR – A discreet behind-the-ear model with the receiver placed in the ear canal. Best paired with a custom earmold for secure placement.

IIC – The IIC delivers the full Encanta sound experience in an almost invisible design.

CIC – This in-the-ear style also sits discreetly inside the ear. However, both IIC and CIC models do not include the motion sensor technology.

Technical Specifications

  • T – Includes a telecoil, a small induction coil that receives magnetic signals and converts them into sound.
  • R – Rechargeable battery built into the device.

Conclusion

What we especially like is the addition of motion sensors in the Bernafon Encanta. These allow the hearing aid to adjust to the wearer’s activity level, making everyday listening support feel more natural and intuitive.

Criticism

We had hoped for a longer battery life with this generation. A second charging case with an integrated power bank would also have been a welcome upgrade.

As for the new design, we weren’t quite as impressed—especially considering how far miniaturization has come.
