We are looking at a standard hearing aid with a thick or thin plastic tube for moderate to severe hearing loss: This model is called BSP7 6 HdO and comes from the company Audio Service. Hearing comfort
We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. However, from our experience in the hearing acoustics store, we also know that hearing comfort is at least equally important. This involves processing background noise in such a way that it does not restrict speech understanding while still creating a natural sound image. When testing the BSP7 6 HdO, we find that there is only the bare minimum concerning hearing comfort. Let's take a look at the individual features:
Of course, this Audio Service device has noise suppression, as that has become standard. Noise suppression means that consistent and rather monotonous sounds (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner...) are dampened. We shouldn't expect too much here. Speech and sounds are quite close together in this regard. However, in acoustically simple situations, this should be sufficient.
According to the manufacturer, impulse noise suppression is integrated, but we could hardly feel its effects. The Audio Service device can also detect wind noise, but only a very slight noise reduction follows. This is adequate for normal daily routes, but true outdoor enthusiasts will not be satisfied with it. An important point in our tests is the number of frequency bands. This plays a role when it comes to the precise programming of the hearing aids. It is also significant for distinguishing between speech and sounds. Here we have 8 bands. There could certainly have been a few more, as we unfortunately cannot make quite as fine adjustments. However, those who do not place so much value on a brilliant sound experience could get along quite well with the BSP7 6 HdO. The microphones in the BSP7 6 HdO can be directed forward in the line of sight. However, this is the only feature that slightly supports spatial hearing.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence has not yet been used here.

Operation & connectivity
The majority of hearing aids automatically adapt to their environment. However, it is sometimes very convenient to be able to make some adjustments yourself. After all, the hearing aid doesn’t know how you are feeling at the moment. We looked at the control options that the BSP7 6 HdO offers: The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This model has one as well. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a gradual adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional daily life or your hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who prefers to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. Those who do not like to touch their ear to increase the volume will be pleased with the optional remote control. This allows you to make changes to the hearing aid comfortably and discreetly.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or softer via voice commands. The idea is really good, but Audio Service has not yet reached that point with this device. Don’t worry about it; this feature would be nice, but it is not essential. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is tap control. You simply tap your ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. However, this Audio Service device does not offer that possibility.
Audio Service also offers a suitable app for easier operation. However, it is not particularly feature-rich and hardly goes beyond the basic functions like volume control and hearing programs. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headset and receives phone calls and other sounds directly in your ear. The prerequisite is a compatible smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that you hear phone calls not just in one ear, but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal preferences.

How does one manage with a hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will evaluate. Because only if such a device works simply and effortlessly can one become accustomed to it. When it comes to simplicity, it initially involves easy, effortless hearing. This works quite well with the existing situational automatic in the BSP7 6 Behind-the-Ear model. However, when the acoustic environment is a bit more varied, the automatic function reaches its limits, and we prefer to rely on manual adjustment options. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is a tremendous relief. The volume does not have to be fully increased immediately. One can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost imperceptibly, the amplification approaches the target.
The BSP7 6 Behind-the-Ear model is not rechargeable; it operates with hearing aid batteries. In contrast to rechargeable batteries, there is no need to charge it daily; instead, the size 13 battery needs to be replaced after a few days.
The hearing aid has been classified in IP protection class 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily damage the hearing aid. Thus, it is well-prepared for outdoor activities where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not go swimming or bathing with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and may ultimately cause damage.

Now we have looked at the main features of the hearing aid. But before we conclude, we want to know if there are any additional features: Audio Service has integrated a noise generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
We find the remote adjustment feature really good. It is very helpful whenever you want to make a small change to the hearing aid settings but don't want to drive all the way to the audiologist. Instead, you can contact them through the app, and the hearing professional sends back an adjusted data package through the same channel.
If Audio Service had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individual health tracking could even be possible. However, this is not the case here. These points detract from the overall value of the BSP7 6 HdO. The functionality of the BSP7 6 HdO is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional features such as fall alerts or Siri connections do add significant value, but they are not relevant for good hearing balance.
